Visiting in a few weeks, first time. Staying in Sundance Square but will have a car. Any must-hit breweries in the area? If not, what to look for on tap from other parts of the state or region?

Bonus points for a bourbon bar rec. This should be within walking distance of SS.

Deep Ellum Brewing is in Dallas, but if you can make it, I highly recommend going there.

I don't know about must hit but some of my recommendations would be:

    - Rahr & Sons. Nothing spectacular but they have a good mix of lagers/German styles that's worth coming out for. Within a 6 minute drive of Sundance Square.
    - Cowtown Brewing. This one is even closer and has a lot of variety. Their lagers are good and somebody mentioned in the 2021 Maibock thread that they just tapped their La Cabra Dorada Maibock.
    - Turning Point Beer. This is a bit of a drive (20-25 minutes from downtown Fort Worth) but they produce probably some of the best NE IPAs in DFW. They're my go to for local hazies.

Honorable Mention: Martin House Brewing. If you're not into gimmick beers this may not be the place for you but if you do a quick look at what's on tap they may have something you like due to the sheer volume of beers they have.

I like Wild Acre Brewing. I mainly like the very big outdoor area they have. But I also like their beer. Plus for you they have a distillery sharing the same parking lot, Trinity River Distillers and I know they have a tasting room. It's right near where I-35 and I-30 intersect.

I'll second the suggestion for Cowtown Brewing.

And I also like Rahr & Sons but I haven't been to their tours in probably 8 or 9 years so I don't know how their location is now.

Funky Picnic is also in that area just south of I-30 from Sundance Square. I have only been here once and it was about 2 years ago. It was quite good. I liked the food and the beer was above average.

Agree with previous suggestions. Near Funky Picnic and Rahr in the S. Main St. area is Hopfusion. Nice variety of good beers. Their "Feisty" beers have more alcohol than you'd think for a "blonde". Just across the bridge west of downtown is Maple Branch - very nice beer garden and a good variety of good beers. Martin House just east of downtown has lots of crazy beers - some made with pickle juice, many dessert beers made with lactose sugar, plus some more normal ones. Their breakfast beer is one of my favorites.
If you don't want to travel all over FW, just go to Flying Saucer bar just a few blocks off Sundance Square - huge variety of local, US, and international beers.
