I'm going to be visiting a friend who lives in Spanish Harlem for a week starting July 1st. He's asked me to come up with five or so beer bars that we should visit while I'm in the NYC. My options are not necessarily limited to Manhattan; I'm already fairly confident I want to go to Bierkraft and Tørst, and we're planning on going to Brooklyn Brewery, Harlem Public, Jacob's Pickles, and probably the Gingerman independent of my selections. Nevertheless, proximity is a plus, because the less time we have to spend in transit the happier we'll be.

Suggestions? Anything I absolutely can't miss? Limited tappings, special events, and the like will definitely be taken into account.

Take Metro North to Peekskill Brewery. Short ride up right to the brewery's doorstep, and some of the best beer in the country right now.

Peekskill looks like a definite go, as my friend wants to get out of town for a bit at some point during the week. I'm also penciling in Blind Tiger, and Rattle 'N' Hum/Waterfront are possibilities I'll keep in mind.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Barcade was my favorite place in NYC from my trip last year, Blind Tiger was a close second.

I just got back from Peekskill, many excellent beers and a cool place. Great views down by water also.

I really liked the Pony Bar. Check the menu first to see if it's to your liking.

Gotta throw in Alewife if you wanna jump across the river into Queens. Always great beer on tap there.

Barcade is a great place. There's one in Brooklyn and across the river in Jersey city.

Time went quicker than we expected, so we weren't able to fit in everything. We still managed to go to Tørst (amazing!), Blind Tiger, and Barcade. Outside of New York, we made a trip up to Montreal and drank at St. Bock (among several other places), then hit Hill Farmstead on the way back.

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions, and I'll be sure to remember all these other places next time I'm in the area.
