Visiting Huntsville from So Cal...

    I'll be in Huntsville, Alabama for 2 weeks for work and I'm interested to see if there will be any special releases coming soon? July 5-20th. I noticed at Liquor Express they had Mexican Cake a few weeks back, looking to try and find some hidden gems I can't get out my way.

    Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

    I recommend taking a little drive south and checking out Hop City in Birmingham. I stopped both ways while on a vacation to Florida and was blown away by the selection.

    I did look at that. Sadly I'll be working 11am-10pm with only 1 day off... Not sure if I'll be able to make it down there...

    Check out Straight to Ale. They are in Hunstville and putting out some good stuff. Their website doesn't say anything about special events, but their Facebook page might.

    Your schedule makes it hard to stop at tap rooms since most close around 9-10p on weeknights and 9p-12a on weekends.
    We (Blue Pants) are bottling our Adambier this week, so that will be released while you are in town.
    StA's Dark Planet, 5th Anniversary Beer, and Gorillanaut and Yellowhammer's Imperial Pils were released a few weeks ago and still pretty easy to come by in bottles.

    As for non-local releases, those are at the more mercy of the distributor. Sometimes they like to sit on things at the warehouse for unknown reasons.

    Good info!! I get in on Sunday around 6pm, so I'm hoping to take a look around town. Most likely on my day off I'll be hitting all the local breweries. Since Liquor Express closes at midnight, I'll be able to hit their taplist after work.

    I've read good things about Blue Pants, it's just too far away to try and make the journey. If I find some bottle at Liquor Express (or another local liquor store someone recommends) I will definitely pick some up.

    Just note that Liquor Express' tap wall is for growler fills only. But they do have a good selection (tap and bottles) and do get special releases.
    Old Town Beer Exchange (downtown) and Wish You Were Beer (near Madison) are great bottle shops and taprooms. Buying beer while drinking beer is a fabulous and dangerous experience. But again, they close at 9 or 10 depending on the day.
