Visiting Indy in a few weeks, and staying downtown. Best taproom and bottle store? Plan to hit up Sun king for sure. Any other can't miss brewery? Thanks!
Brassiere Brugge and Black Acre are my two favorite breweries in town. The other ones in town that come to mind are Sun King (where you're already going), Flat 12, Triton, Bier, Indiana City (just around the corner from Sun King, they just opened), and Union Brewing (in Carmel on the north side, all they do are cask ales). As for bottles, Kahn's on Keystone, Crown downtown and Parti Pak on the south side are my favorites. If you're gonna be here for a few weeks and want to grab a beer one night, let me know. I'm usually free.
Also make sure to check out the Tomlinson Tap room located in the city market downtown. 16 taps of craft from Indiana breweries...good specials throughout the week and usually quite a few interesting options to choose from....
Forgot to even mention craft beer bars. Tomlinson's, Twenty Tap, and Ale Emporium are all decent choices. Tomlinson's will probably be closest. Sinking Ship seems to usually have decent options too, and there's always Shallo's on the south side.
U guys are awesome, excellent ideas. Love Belgians too, so brugges sounds good. I may have some time freed up, the first night in town. Will let you know once we (me, cuz's, +gf) have our Agenda set up. Is that a queensland psykosis?
my avatar? No, that's Senna. He was a whippet/beagle mix. I had to put him down on my birthday last year. He was my first dog I could call my own (always grew up with dogs in the house when I was younger), so will always have a very special place with me. I now have two more who look just like him. And let me know when you're free. I'm happy to play the role of tour guide if possible.
I think Twenty Tap is going to have another Goose Island takeover around this time with sours and stouts. Hopefully this includes Jillian and Halia.
I would be in as well. When is it? I may try and coax my gf, cuz and his wife to letting me do a bottle share or something one of those nights. They are not beer advocates, and do not understand. Anything you want to try from nor cal?
Just chiming in on this thread, Thanks for the info. I'm coming to Indy tomorrow to Sat afternoon. Anything exciting going on in the Indy beer world?
http://hoosierbeergeek.blogspot.com/ is a pretty good blog for Indy goings ons, doesn't have everything, but has a nice calendar with events on it, and a few guides as to good places to go depending on where in town you're going to be.
I'm always down for anything sour or hoppy. I'd love to try stuff from Cellarmaker in San Fran (Peach Nightmare in particular), but I'm not sure how close they are to you. Russian River "-ations" are always a favorite as well. If it makes it easier on them, we could do a share along with dinner somewhere so it's not so beer-centric for them. I'm on the south side, but my apartment complex has a nice clubhouse area I could reserve if needed, I'd just need to know the date.
I'll be in town for the B1G football championship game Dec 7-8. Can I fill my own growlers at the breweries mentioned above?
All but Brugge fill growlers (actually I dunno about Union). I don't know if they require them to be their own growlers or not, but I expect not. I know I filled a Kuhnhenn growler at Black Acre.
