It's the one by the Home Depot. The beer guy is Kevin. He looks like a hippie. Good dude. Tell him you're from out of town and Mike pointed you his way. He'll take care of you. I can let him know to hold you back 6'ers of Zombie Dust/Gumballhead/Alpha King/Yum Yum or whatever you're after if you'd like.

Also, Ale Emporium is 5 minutes down the road from Payless. I won't speak to the atmosphere of the place because it's a sports bar but they have the best wings I've ever had. Lots of people over the years on here have talked about the greatness that is Hermanki wings. They also have a craft heavy tap list. My wife and I ate there last night and had...

    Goose Island: Madame Rose
    3 Floyds: Topless Witch
    Stone: Enjoy By Tangerine
    Oskar Blues: Death By Coconut

It's by no means a craft beer destination but you can't beat good wings and a good beer or 2 in between bottle shop hopping. And this, Payless and Parti-Pak are all within striking distance of each other.

    @TomCat11

    Top 5 breweries to stop:
    1. Deviate
    2. Black Acre
    3. New Day (mead & cider place)
    4. Daredevil
    5. Taxman

    Top 3 bars:
    1. La Margarita
    2. The Koelschip
    3. Kumas

In my opinion, the best route to do is start out at Deviate, stop at Koelschip, then go to Fountain Square for New Day & La Margarita (or Kumas), and finally go to the East side at Black Acre.

Tomorrow, Central State is releasing their Polyjuice Potion (Gose with plums & elderberries), which is Harry Potter themed, at The Koelschip at 12pm. Should be pretty cool event to check out if you have the time.

As for bottle shops, my store (Crown #2 on Southport Rd) has some good stuff. If you need something like Zombie Dust, let me know.

I'll be at the Central State release hopefully around 3 or so. Fingers crossed they haven't run out by then. If they have, I'll drink my weight in their beers on tap.

I plan on getting there around when the open since I have to work at 4pm. I just wish they had some of the glassware available like they did up in Chicago at Emporium Arcade release tonight. :slight_frown:

Those are pretty sweet. Shocked they won't have any with them.

Anyone have info of places to go around the Upland Beer Indy location. I won the lottery and because I'm from Chicago, I was thinking about making a night of it. Google Maps shows me its by Butler University but does anyone know anywhere worth going to around there?

    Thanks

You'll be a few blocks south of Twenty Tap, which is one of the better beer bars in the area. You'll also be a few blocks east of Kahn''s Fine Wines, which is considered one of the best bottle shops in Indy.

The location you'll be picking up from is the Broad Ripple location (4842 N College Ave). That's really close to Broad Ripple, which has bars like HopCat, Twenty Tap, etc. Then there's Fountain Square that's not too far. There, you have bars such as La Margarita, Kumas, and Tappers (arcade bar) and also has New Day (who makes mead and cider).

No problemo. Depending on how much time you have, here's a top 3 list for best bars and breweries (IMO):

    Bars:
    1. La Margarita
    2. The Koelschip (forgot to mention that this one was close to Upland)
    3. Kumas/Twenty Tap/HopCat

    Breweries:
    1. Deviate
    2. Black Acre
    3. Daredevil

Alright, this helps me narrow it down. I was going to plug in all the breweries into google maps but you saved me the time. Thanks

Thanks for the confirmation on location. No need for holding anything. I'm sure there's more than enough IN beers to keep be busy while there and I'll just go on what I'm fortunate enough to come across. Not planning to haul anything back with me so whatever bottles/can I get will be just enough to last me 2 nights. Looking forward to it!

Just kind of echoing what everyone else is saying - Broad Ripple is 5 minutes down the street. Hop Cat is on the same road as Upland at the main intersection that takes you into the heart of Broad Ripple. Twenty Tap always has a good selection of Indy beers. Personally, I'd get a beer there and go next door to Fat Dan's. Sandwich heaven.

Not sure if you're a coffee nut but Hubbard & Craven's is a couple blocks behind Upland. They make a great nitro cold brew. Stopping there to pick one up and a bag of beans has become a Saturday ritual for me.

Sounds good. Let me know if you find anything you like and want to set up some trades down the line. I used to live in Virginia Beach 10 years ago. I visited a few months back and fell in love with the Reaver Beach beers I had. Not sure if you're from the Hampton Roads area or closer to Richmond but you guys got some cool things going on out there.

Cool. I'll just be in the area from Sat - Mon and try to just do carry on bags when I travel that short of time and don't plan to take or bring anything home. I'm about an hour west of RVA so the opposite side of VaBeach but have had a few of theirs. We get a few of their beers where I am. Love Hoptopus and have had only a couple of their sours.

Thanks for the tips @DrippingI ! I'll actually be in town next weekend (Nov 5th) with Saturday probably being the main day I have enough time to really make some stops. Your route was along the lines I was thinking but did not know about Daredevil. I'm flying in and land around Noon so will probably bee line straight for there since it looks close to the airport. Then head up to Deviate and make my way down to Koelschip/Central State. Lunch will be a priority when I arrive too. Any food spots in between the airport / Daredevil / Deviate you recommend or do breweries typically have foodtrucks on the weekends?

May check out La Margarita for dinner either Sat or Sun. Black Acre is only about 3 miles from where I'm staying on 21st St. so that will probably be towards the end of stops on Sat. Your Crown is probably a littler farther south than I planned to travel but I did have the location on N. Delaware listed since I read a little farther up about them putting out their Three Floyds Saturday morning. I'm really looking for a shop selling singles. Just about every bottle shop where I am will break packs down for customers. It's nice to have a sixer if I was planning to bring something home but since I'm only there for a couple days then I would like to grab a mix six of a few good things I probably won't find on tap around town.

Are there any shops that are active on social media with regularly posting about what's new in stock

Daredevil has food, but it's not exactly close to the airport. Koelschip isn't likely much further. Personally I'd go to Koeschip first and grab a sandwich from Goose the Market next door, then head to Deviate, and then to Daredevil.

When you go to La Marg, leave time for New Day also, which is a block away.

If you are looking for single bottles, Parti Pak (north or south location) is your best bet. Avoid anything hoppy w/o a bottle date, as freshness is not really a priority for them. If you buy more than you can take back, a couple stores in town (Khans and Vine & Table) have shippers available as well.

Thanks for pointing that out. Daredevil definitely looked closer on GoogleMaps when I marked it but it's about 20 mins from the airport and only about 5 minute shorter drive than Koelschip. I may take that first stop suggestion since a lot of people have referenced Goose the Market for sandwiches. Probably Daredevil next before heading up to Devaite and making a loop around 465 so I'm not bouncing all over. As of now I am definitely hitting Koelschip, Deviate, Black Acre and Daredevil. There are quite a few others convenient to 465 and and not sure how many I'll be able to squeeze in. I can plan to his the other spots near downtown later in the evening. I see BA Places has Big Lug Canteen and TwoDEEP at the top of the brewery list but I don't recall anyone mentioning them in responses above. Would they be viable options too?
