I have family in Charles City that I'm coming to visit over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. A couple of questions - Is it worth going to Decorah to TG? Are there any good shops in or close to Charles City that would have TG or other local brews available. Does Iowa get BCBS on Black Friday? If so, do I need to line up or do I just swing into the liquor store at my convenience?

I'm coming from MN if anyone wants to meet up and trade TG for Surly, have Darkness, Eight, Pentagram, any of the regular brews.

From Charles City, it is well worth the hour trip over to Decorah. I would definitely not miss that stop while relatively close. I highly doubt there is a store in Charles City that carries anything that great and certainly won't have TG bottles. The closest place with a decent selection would probably be Mason City. Yes, Iowa does get BCBS, but I've never been up to that part of Iowa around BCBS release time to know if they get bottles. Again, your best best is probably Mason City for that.

CC does actually have bottles of TG, I live here and bought some last week...mostly just Golden Nugget and Dorothy's. The Hy-Vee has a decent selection, some Lagunitas, and a few other decent beers from time to time.

Thanks for the tips guys! I'll definitely make time to swing over to Decorah. Does TG do growler fills at the brewery?

They do growler fills of most beers on tap. Check their FB or twitter page for the most recent list.

Ahh, thanks, I was looking at their website and couldn't find much info. Will they fill my growlers or do you have to buy theirs?

If yours are clean and have the government warning label, they'll fill them. If they don't have the label, they'll tape one on for you.

Ah cool, here in MN (land of archaic beer laws) breweries can only fill their own growlers.

that actually just changed, tho the number of breweries actually doing it is still quite small.

Sorry, should have said, "Breweries only 'will' fill their own growlers."
