Hi, visiting Kenosha WI in a few days and looking for liquor stores or restaurants/bars with good craft beer and/or bourbon. Thank you in advance!

    Cheers!

Woodmans in Kenosha and Tenuta's Deli and Liquors are going to be your go-tos for stores.

This about covers it. Not much else there beer-wise. If you hit Tenutas watch for Funk Factory 750mL bottles on the bomber shelves and stuff from 1840 in Milwaukee hiding in the singles rack. Sometimes there's some old gems hiding out there too.

Downtown look for the Rustic Road brewery. Couple old home-brew club friends are helping to brew there and I highly recommend their expertise.

Also, the Piggly Wiggly in the Pershing Plaza shopping center off Hwy 50 (east of Woodman's, south of Tenuta's) usually has a good selection of beers at good prices -- good selection of imports, too.

As well as the Festival Foods off 80th, east of 39th -- almost as big a selection as Woodman's.

Plus one on Captain Mike's for beer taps, but Ron's, right next to Tenuta's, has better burgers. Just sayin'.

BTW -- to Captain Mike's, they have a few locations* -- Uncle Mike's Highway Pub is just north of Woodman's along the frontage road. I'll have to look up the third location, but it's a little out of the way from all of the spots we've suggested anyway.

*It looks like Captain Mike's has new owners... unsure of the consistency.

Aww man forgot Festival! There's also another Festival near the Walmart on Green Bay road.

The 3rd Mike's location you are speaking of is Mike's Chicken and Donuts downtown. I've never been and no idea what beers are there but I've heard the food is legit. Hadn't heard about the ownership change at Captain Mike's.

FWIW I always go for tacos when I'm in Kenosha. There's at least 3 taco joints in Keno I'd take over any place I've ever found in Milwaukee.

Remember the days of stopping by Mars Cheese Castle to see if you could score some Toppling Goliath bombers?

The excitement for a FIB of seeing a bomber of Pseudo Sue, quickly tempered by the $5-7 kingdom tax, soon followed by a walk of shame to the check out. Well, not without getting some cheese samples first. Yes, I remember.

Woodman's is a nice size liquor store inside the grocery store.

There was another Mike's further south on Sheridan for a while (maybe the original?), but it -- and the Chicken & Donuts -- look to be closed.

I'm shocked to learn they closed or changed hands. All of those Mike's venues were always held up by the locals as examples of well run establishments in a town otherwise populated by dumpy dive bars. Maybe the pandemic hit them hard? But I also have to wonder if having so many locations in Such a small town only ends up pitting your own businesses against each other.

Can't say, but it looks like the new owners took over Capt. Mike's in 2019 -- but at least they're still open.

And about those dive bars... those were/are some'a the best joints in town!
