Will be visiting the Great Smokey Mountains in a few weeks but am also interested in best breweries in the area. Will have our own transportation so getting around will not be an issue. Will be staying at an AirBB south of Knoxville (Townsend) so any places in Knoxville or south of Knoxville. Also, any good bottle shops for craft beer would be greatly appreciated. Cheers..
Ok so, 1. You will pass Blackberry Farm Brewery on your drive from Townsend to Knoxville. This is a must stop. 2. Go to North Central St. in Knoxville and park at a brewery and you can walk to most of the main ones. These include: Crafty Bastard/ Elkmont Exchange(great dining atmosphere, so so beer) / Shultz Brau( Great beer and it’s a castle) Next level brewing is also in walking distance. 3. Next I would visit Pretentious Beer/Glass( Awesome beer and they make their own glasses and sell them as well. 4.Now head across the river to South Knoxville and visit Print Shop brewery. Great beer. 5. There are a ton more breweries in k-town but these are my favorite. Honorable mentions in case you decide to go there instead are.- Alliance brewery/ Last days of autumn/ Hexagon brewering/ Abridged brewery-they had two tap rooms and the best burger in town. I believe the sour tap room is in Central St. actually so go there amazing sours!!!/ Balter beer works/ Fanatic brewery/ Albright Grove- this guys was a brewer at Revolution Brewery in Chicago I read. Meet him at Blackberry Farm brewery once, super nice . 6. There’s more but that covers most of the big ones. Oh Orange hat brewery is good but it’s in West Knoxville. 7. OK if your still with me now go back to Maryville and eat at Smoky Mountain Brewery and order a Black bear ale. Best brown ale ever. 8. Then when you just want chill in Townsend visit The Abby. It’s on old wooden church converted into a pub. And the trout fishing behind it is a TWRA stock hole that you don’t need a stamp to fish, just a one day fishing license for like $11 Cheers let me know how it goes!! Here are the entrances to Shultz Brau and Crafty Bastard brewing. I love both of these places.
Forgot to add as far as bottle shops go McScrooges wine& liquor has the best bottle selection/local taps for growlers and a huge huge huge beer cave
And there it is. The most conclusive beer tour I’ve ever read! Good stuff, now I need to go on a Knoxville tour myself.
@tmm786 its fun and you can’t get them all in one night lol. The Brew tour bus is a good option. They pick your party up and drop you off. If you chose the brew& bbq tour they feed you awesome bbq after visiting four breweries of your choice I think and you get a flight of tasters or a pint at each brewery. I think this tour is $65 a person and cheaper for non drinkers who just wanna join in on the fun
Wow--Thanks for all the suggestions....We're coming down from Buffalo, NY (where most everything is closed). Just wondering on the status of most breweries. Open yet or do they do curbside pickup? @Readmorevols Not really much of an IPA fan. More into brown ales, red ales and rauchbier . Anything smoked/chile/jalapeno. On the other end a good wit beer or something with alot of clove-also a good lambic.. Any suggestions from your local breweries would be greatly appreciated. Already looking forward to the Black Bear ale from Smokey Mountain..
@MJKramer based in your preferences you want to visit Crafty Bastard/Shultz Brau and Blackberry Farm Brewery. Unfortunately for now they are not open to visit the taprooms. They are doing to-go only with cans/crowlers/bottles. On the up side a lot of stuff around is opening up with limited capacity so maybe in a few weeks the taprooms will be open. As far recommendations I would just look at their to-go list on most of their websites. All are updated pretty regularly and for limited releases I use their Facebook pages. Shultz Brau brews only German purity Las beers which sound what you like. Hopefully their beer garden will be open by then. Awesome experience. My friend @timmy2b is from area. We trade quiet regularly, I just picked him a bottle up today from Crafty Bastard they had a new release of a PawPaw sour. Cheers
