First time visiting next week. Short two day stopover. Aside from the LP Brewpub, are there any other gems that serve some great craft beer along with a terrific ambience? Also, as a tourist, can someone enjoy an entire day in the village without going anywhere else? Thanks!

On the main strip, there is the Adirondack Brewing restaurant / brewpub. Their beer is just ok, but it's convenient and has decent food. From a tourist standpoint, it's so beautiful there you can easily burn a day just by moving in slow-motion and absorbing the sights. I despise shopping, but there's a two-story shop that has the kinds of things you'd outfit a cabin with, and I can spend an hour in there just looking over all the trinkets and furniture. While winter is waaaaay cooler (pun intended), I still recommend a walk around Mirror Lake, and if you like hiking, take a stroll up to the top of one of the nearby mountains via the well-marked trails (all walking distance from town). For brunch, you have to go to the crepe place, and if you have the patience to wait in line (or get there early enough to sit quickly), Liquids & Solids has food to die for, with a good beer list too. Hope you have fun. While I'm not from there, it's the favorite short vacation spot in the east for my wife and me.

P.S. - When traveling, I use pubquest.com to locate all breweries & brewpubs. One of the greatest websites ever.

Oh, and I forgot ... the most obvious tourist stuff is the Olympic village sites. Since it was the winter games, you'll obviously not see them in their glory in June, but it's still fun to take a walk inside of the legendary arena and imagine Al Michaels' immortal call (I still get chills just thinking about what beating the Russians did for USA hockey).

I'll second Liquids and Solids...they do it right with beer and food.

I'm going up to Lake Placid soon too, for a 4-day weekend. Based on their beer menu I'll definitely be patronizing Liquids & Solids at least one night. :grinning:
