Hey people. I’m in West Hollywood for a couple days. Probably no time to drag the family to breweries or bars, but I’m hoping to pick up a few super great, piney west coast IPAs for the hotel room. All we really get in my neck of the woods is hazy, and I want to find some glorious, dank hops. Any suggestions for what I might find in a Whole Foods or whatnot? Swami’s? Pliny? Thanks!
Whole Foods to always has Pliny and Blind Pig. They also had Happy Hops and Swamis and many others like Stone IPA. I like Beachwood LBC, so you’ll be covered. Whole Foods is pretty well rounded style wise, they’ll have interesting non IPA beers too, their pricing is very fair, mostly the same as Trader Joes
Agree with the above that WF and TJ should be solid. There’s also K&L Wines on Vine by Sunset which has a decent selection of singles. If you end up at The Grove, check out Bar 326 which is one of the spaces in the attached Farmers Market. They’re not always great about keeping the taplist totally up-to-date online but it’s a consistently good list with a nice variety. https://fmbars.com/home https://www.instagram.com/farmersmarketbar326?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
It seems like WF has pulled all Russian River stuff. Been to three and they've been absent from shelves for couple months at this point . I'd hit K&L . also Bevmo and Total Wine within ¼ mile of eachother off Wilshire and La Brea . Just make sure to check dates.
I clicked “nearby” on Untappd and saw someone had checked in a double dry hopped Pliny there. Time to tell the wife I’m going out for a pack of smokes.
That’s crazy, maybe my store has old stock, I saw Pliny recently and it’s on the WF website. Maybe it’s just some stores? Sorry for the bad advice.
Downtown LA, Palms area ,Silverlake and Pasadena locations no longer carry it. They have more mocktails and Cutwater now though
Beat me to it--check the dates! And buy cold. Some of those bigger stores keep IPAs out, warm--that's a no-no.
The bad thing about Trader Joe’s is that they don’t refrigerate their beer, the good thing is that you can buy singles at 6 pack price, the TJs I go must sell a bunch of Swami’s as it’s always pretty fresh. They usually have Pizza Ports seasonal WCIPA too. Since you’re only in town a couple of days, you may want singles. I don’t know if the liquor store Resistance mentioned (K&L) sells singles or not. Total Wine seems more like a retirement home for beers, everything is old and stored warm.
That Swami’s I grabbed from Trader Joe’s held up great. Tomorrow night there should be a window to find that dry hopped Pliny. Thanks team!
Nothing new yet, but we’ve been pretty busy with visiting and such. Hopefully we get to Whole Foods tomorrow.
