Sorry David, just came from BWLB. Bottles gone. Guess that's what happens when you allow 11 per customer. C'mon guys!! Cut it to 3-4 and make it last a little for the people that can't make it there first day!!

Got 4 bottles last night. Down to 2. Will be down to 1 after xmas. Yeah, too bad they don't do like Noble and allow 2 or 4 bottles. The 11 bottle limit is so they don't buy a case and sell it on ebay as a case. Guess it happened before. But you could buy 11 bottles and have your butty buy 1 and make it a case, I guess.

    In order of personal preference:

    BARS:
    1) Sunset Beer Company (My favorite place beer-related in L.A. Low corkage fee for the bottles, and a small but well curated selection of drafts)
    2) Blue Palms Brewhouse (sometimes they have nothing going; but they are also stacked sometimes. Great prices too.)
    3) Buzz (Moderate corkage fee, and they have an ever improving small selection of drafts)
    4) Surly Goat / Verdugo (a bit pricey, but no denying the stuff they pour is quality)
    5) Stout Burgers and Beer (they have some great stuff! The burgers are great too)

    BOTTLES
    1) Sunset Beer Company (huge selection, lots of rare stuff, good prices)
    2) Vendome (Fucking love this place. Long is the man.)
    3) Buzz (Pricey, and a bit stuffy; but the selection is ever improving.)
    4) K&L Liquor (small but extremely well curated selection; Krista knows her stuff)
    5) Wally's (Perry is very helpful)
    6) Whole Foods @ 3rd and Fairfax (really impressive selection! Someone cares here!)
    7) Cap N' Cork (was a bit underwhelmed last time I went there)

Any of the top three here are pretty much top notch. Haven't been to Ramirez yet, which I must soon. I shop at K&L regularly for proximity's sake, and they always have something I want. But they are more tilted towards the Farmhouse / Wild Ale end of the spectrum; you can count on finding some Prairie, Anchorage, Grassroots, Telegraph, the Bruery, and several Belgians, but you won't find much of the bigger microbrews here (a few Stones, and a couple stouts are there usually too...)

Hi folks, didn't want to spit out another new thread, so figure I would ask here. Have a friend coming from LA in the next week or so who mentioned she'd be willing to grab a few bottles to bring back to MA. I recently had a couple brews from Eagle Rock that I enjoyed, so I'm going to have her grab a couple bottles of their Equinox sour.

Are there any other shops or breweries close by that have bottles available now that people would recommend? I don't want to send her all over the city, so if there's stuff nearby that people think is worthwhile, I'd love to hear it. My preferred styles would be probably sours/wilds, stouts, barleywines, and saisons, but I'm willing to try most anything. Cheers!

Have them grab some 4pack cans from Golden road of the fresh Wolf among Weeds. Recent batches are really nice.

Highland Park Brewery just started bottling their beers, and they may still have the first two available at their bar/tasting room, The Hermosillo. It's a bar in Highland Park, really close to Eagle Rock. They have a sour wheat with peaches and nectarines called Lazy Susan, and a Belgian-style single with brett called Vacation with Brett.

If she were to pop into one of the Ramirez Liquor locations there should be an abundance of Crooked Stave wild ales. Not a CA brewery, but definitely nothing to sneeze at.

@Xul and @Sumdeus those maps are really helpful for us out of towners. Has anyone made something similar for Northern CA? I'll be road tripping down from WA in March and have created my own map of places to hit, but I suspect there are places I'd blow right by without a little help from the CA BA's...

I'm on a plane to L.A. right now! Have 4 free days to explore and soak in the SoCal suds, pretty excited. Is my tentative plan doable? Work has me staying at the Omni downtown so everything is a billion miles away but we have a car.

    This afternoon:
Land at 11:45am, head straight to hotel to check in, then down to Beachwood BBQ for lunch and brews. Maybe hit Smog City and/or El Segundo somehow on the way back. I know traffic will likely be a nightmare.

    Tomorrow;
    San Diego
Lost Abbey on the way down, maybe lunch at Stone
Pretty much open after that but I know we want to hit Modern Times and Société for sure. Alesmith, Ballast Point, and Green Flash would all be cool, as would Alpine but that's a ways out so I dunno. Really gonna try to drag my friend to Toronado but well see...

    Sunday:
    Chillin' with @StonedRaider

    Monday:
Noble Ale when it opens at 4
    Bruery
Mr. K's for my shopping needs
    Bottle Logic

Yay? Nay? Will Mr K's satisfy my needs or should I try to get to another spot too (LA or SD)?

Smog city, and el Segundo are kind of on the way to/from long beach, smog city more so. Should be doable, there is a little cluster of breweries near smog city (monkish and the dudes walking distance, absolution not far).

Stone Escondido is close to list abbey so if you want to go there for lunch it should be easy. Stone is avery beautiful site, I wouldn't pass it up if you haven't been. Alesmith and ballast point are also not far from each other (though iwould drive) and depending on if you lunch at stone you could probably design aroute to hit both of them up on the way to either modern times location.

You're Monday plan is very doable. Try to leave for the breweries before 3 or 4 though.

For tomorrow. Leave hotel by 830, drive straight to alpine. Eat lunch between 11 and 12 have beers, brewery opens at 12, buy bottles/growler out by 1230. drive to lost abbey then make your way back down to societe then 30th street for modern times flavordome and toronado. You will be doing some back tracking but there are other spots to hit between. Alternately, hold off on lost abbey till monday on your way back to oc. They open at 1 so as long as you leave there by 230 you should be at nobel by 4.

Alpine is going to be crazy tomorrow. Unless you like crowds.

While I would personally do that, my co-worker will laugh at me if I suggest we leave at 8:30am haha. BUT, if I somehow can convince her to do so...will Alpine be a madhouse at opening?
