Hey everyone, visiting Louisville next weekend for a bachelor party. While we plan to do our share of distilleries in town, we still want to visit some breweries. I took a look and mainly only heard of Against the Grain so was looking for opinions on which breweries to visit while in town. Hazies, stouts and lagers are the preferred style. Any info is appreciated so thanks in advance.

Haven't been since work used to take me there regularly pre pandemic but I'd put the highlights as Monnik for good to great beer across a variety of styles with excellent food, Mile Wide seems to make the most popular hazy ipas and generally makes good beer, against the grain always has something thats good and lots of variety, and there's one other brewery in NULU neighborhood who's name escapes me who was doing more of the hip styles last time I was there and seemed to be popular.

People also seem to like Gravely but I found them to be over priced and Great Flood makes acceptable beer as well. Holsopple is kind of out in the suburbs but I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality they were putting out

Monnik and Mile Wide and AtG would be the ones I'd focus on though

Akasha is the brewery in NULU. There's a super good restaurant near by there called Mayan Cafe as well. God i miss the food in Louisville

I’ve been enjoying the offerings from Atrium. They are not far from the others listed, making it easy to sample a few different breweries.

I'll be there for work in November...hopefully things have continued to improve by then so I can feel safe visiting different breweries. I've traveled with work for the 1st time last month up to Ohio and just hit a brewery that had beer to go as well as a bottle shop and enjoyed in my hotel room with some really good Northern Chinese takeout.

Chicken and rabbit seem to be their wheel house. Just super good flavors all around. I was really pleasantly surprised to find such great central American and southern Mexican food in Louisville. If your willing to be the only gringo in the shop there is an absolutely amazing Salvadoran restaurant a little past Churchill downs, and there's a Mexican grocery out on the south end that has a taqueria that can hang with any thing southern California has to offer. Great BBQ too of course and solid south east Asian food. If I ever make it back (I changed jobs and don't get the travel perk anymore) there's a biscuit place that I always just missed.

Like I said, I miss the food in Louisville

@unlikelyspiderperson Don't think we've ever had Salvadoran cuisine before. My wife and I love Central & South American food(s). She is Colombian so that mitigates the gringo/language barrier effect when going into hyper authentic Spanish places.

The Salvadoran place is called El Guanacita. I think its on Taylor if my memory serves. On the weekends they make excellent caldo de Pollo and always love their pupusas.

My favorite Mexican food is at supermercado guanjuato (sp? Its a Mexican state). Excellent tacos and all kinds of good specials. They make great al pastor as well.

Both places also make tamales that people love (im not a tamale fan), the big banana leaf ones at Guanacita and the typical Mexican corn husk ones at guanajuato. There's also a place over on Frankfort called Con Juevos that is a sort of modern US diner with a nice little fresh Mex twist.

Not sure if it is already on your list as it is not a brewery or distillery but I recommend checking out Sergio’s - tap list is on Untappd and they have tons of bottles/cans for onsite or offsite consumption.

Oh man, sergios is an absolute gem. Check those dates or drink things that can handle some age. There's waaaaay to much stuff for anything to move quickly and the US stuff is ruthlessly over priced. The cheese wonton is bomb. Settle in for a great bottle sesh and know that it's cash only. If Sergio is actually there then lean on him for recommendations and try to get him roped into a chat. That dude is a straight up modern beer legend.
