I'm from Austin, TX and will be visiting Maine next week for new job training. I will be flying into Bangor and driving to Northport. I have Sunday to myself and then Friday up till lunch time. Any other day is a gamble. Any beers I should pick up or good beer bars to visit that aren't out of the way?
If you're going to be in Northport, then you are only a few miles from Marshall Wharf Brewing (http://www.marshallwharf.com/) in Belfast. The restaurant there is "Three Tides" (http://www.3tides.com/), and if I was you, I'd definitely spend a night or two there. Also, you'll probably only be about a 1hr drive to Oxbow Brewing in Newcastle: (http://oxbowbeer.com/Oxbow_Beer/Oxbow_Beer.html). It's definitely "out of the way", but I love this place. It'd be worth the trip. Otherwise, pick up some Maine Beer Co and Allagash bottles to take home with you.
I don't know what your transportation situation is, but there are several great quality bottle shops in Bangor when you fly in/out. State St. Wine Cellar and Bangor Wine and Cheese are both within a mile of each other. I would also check out Hogan Rd Deli. Nocturnem Draft Haus, a great bar is only a short walk from Bangor Wine.
3 Tides is only open 4-9 on Sunday, FYI. ... Marshall Wharf, Oxbow, Maine Beer Co. and Allagash are your objectives there.
Thanks for the info guys. I will be renting a car, so I should have free reign in the evenings to do whatever. Hope I don't go overweight on return flight home. lol
If you're in Bangor for a bit, check out Geaghan Bros Brewing. Good food, good beers made on site (try the Capt Kool IPA and Bangor Tiger IPA). At the very least swing in and grab a growler (32 and 64 oz available) or two to take to Northport.
