Will be on a business trip to Manhattan beach area for a couple of days with little time to travel outside of work so looking for any store/brewery recommendations near the area to satisfy my pallet and also to take some brews back to Minnesota. Appreciate any recommendations. Cheers!
Agree with @J-loco if you're looking for bottles, Select Beer Store's your spot. Total Wine's not too far either in Redondo, but supporting a great local shop like Select Beer Store's the way to go. When are you getting in? Naja's annual IPA Fest starts up next week, so that'll bring out even more local (and not so local) options than normal on tap. Would also highly recommend hitting up Smog City and Monkish (both open every day but Monday) in Torrance, and Phantom Carriage in Carson. If you're up for a drive a little outside of South Bay, Beachwood in Long Beach and a must-stop.
while actually in Manhattan Beach you may as well check out Brewery at Abigaile. if you're looking for somewhere to eat MB Post is good, and they usually have something decent on tap
It doesn't get mentioned a lot on this site, but I love Mediterraneo on the Hermosa Pier. Really nice selection of quality beer, always bottles of RR sours available, really good tapas and awesome outdoor dining.
I was just going to say if you don't have much time to explore El Segundo Brewing Co is the place to hit up. 10 minutes away on the other side of LAX is Three Weavers Brewing Co. Stop at Big Mike's Philly Sandwich shop, pick up a sandwich to go and take it with you to ESBC. Buy a couple of bottles to go. Richman's Bar & Grill is a 2 minute walk from ESBC. You also have Whole Foods El Segundo for a great selection of local bottles.
(though be sure to check dates on IPAs at Whole Foods... been avoiding lately because nearly everything's a minimum of six weeks old)
Good call. I still don't understand how some of these brewery's say that their iPA's in can's/bottles is good for 3-6 months. Crazy.
Thanks for all the recommendations ... this certainly helps. I get in Sunday early afternoon and leave Wednesday morning. So should be able to go to Naja's IPA fest. I also saw that ESBC was close by so might do that as well. Might just rent a bike on Tuesday to check out some of these places.
Same here. Probably as a way to keep people buying things given how long well-circulated IPAs now sit on shelves. Even see great seasonal beers like Booming Rollers hanging around for six weeks and change. Stores can't jump onboard with the "fresh is better" messaging, because then it makes their older stock useless. If you admit inferiority, can't ask customers to pay same price for week-old and two-month old products.
