Business brings me to Miami in January, and I'm eager to find some undiscovered gems and/or bottle shops. I assume J Wakefield is a must, but are there any others to check out? I'll be there a week, so even any great bottle shops near the Miami Airport that will stock local brews would be terrific. Please and thanks in advance.

Union beerstore is a must which is about a 5 mile drive from jwb, while in wynwood you’ll want to check out boxeldr, wynwood brewing and hit kush for lunch.

Head over to Wynwood. Go to J Wake, Concrete Beach Brewing, Kush (best burger sport and great draft list), and Salty Donut.

I'll add a few...I'd visit MIA brewing about 10-15 minutes west of the airport. 40+ of their own taps (they crowler fill many) and they have about 10 guest taps plus a great food menu, TV's, Wifi and opens at 11 am. May want to check out Mendez Fuel as well. They fill crowlers too and usually post on Instagram when they have new bottles/cans.

If you'll have a car and/or some time, visit the Ft Lauderdale area...many threads on here but generally, Laser Wolf (craft beer bar), Invasive Species (former head brewer from Funky Buddha), Craft Beer Cartel (store + homebrew supplies + growler fills), Riverside Market (opens at 8 am, 20+ taps and 500+ bottles) and Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park (food, beer). ABC in Ft Lauderdale has good craft beer selections and growler fill station also. Any Total Wine should have a solid selection.

Sunset Corners never gets mentioned, but I'd def hit them up if you can make it out to Kendall (about 30 min south of the airport). Great beer selection with a lot of hidden surprises lurking on the shelves

Digging up an old thread here as my wife and I will be staying in the Wynwood area of Miami for 4 days in March and we’re looking for advice.

We put together our usual BA/RB list of beer destinations (below) in prep for our visit and it looks like there's a number of good options.

Just wondering which spots are "musts," which ones we could maybe pass up, and whether there are any spots not listed below that are worth hitting up. Your help is much appreciated. Cheers!

@cratez I would add union beer store and boxeldr to your list, mendez fuel for crowlers/bottles (abbey is skippable imo). There is also a total wine on south beach that’s closer to the wynwood area than the location you’ve listed. Kush and lokal have similar menus but different taplists...id also check out proof near midtown, limited but local beer options but an amazing burger.

The Abbey isn’t a brewery or brewpub. It is one of the original places down here to carry good beer but a bit out of the way if you’re short on time. Top three for me are union beer store (also gives a good discount on beers to go) , MIA, and Wakefield which is walking distance to boxelder, wynwood, and concrete beach. id also suggest wood tavern and gramps while In the wynwood area if you’re around during happy hour for cheap drinks and usually some decent local beers.

Definitely The Mighty at 2224 Coral Way and Union Beer in little Havana district. You should check out BeerMenus.com when you get it to see what each place has on draft.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like we're on the right track as we're staying in Wynwood and plan to hit all of the local bars/breweries there. I really appreciate the other recommendations.

Quick question: Veza Sur was recommended on another forum. Is there any reason - besides the fact that it's relatively new - why it doesn't feature prominently on the beer rating sites, and was not reco'd here? At this point we plan to go there since it was suggested by a trusted source, has good but limited reviews, and is close to where we're staying. But I'm curious to know what the BA locals think about the place.

    It’s an InBev brewery

I will never go to Veza Sur. It’s an InBev owned brewery they are trying to pass off/disguise as a local brewery. With legit independent breweries in Wynwood like J. Wakefield and Wynwood Brewery (as well as Sam Adams owned Concrete Beach Brewery) and places like Bxlder Market, Kush, etc that have a lot of great local Florida beers on tap, there’s no reason to support that dirtbag company, AB InBev. Just my opinion. Enjoy your time in Miami.

If you make it up to Lauderdale stop at Flagler Village in the Brass Tap.. pretty good food.and I hear the beer there is not too shabby either!

Thanks folks. We'll steer clear of Veza Sur and support local. Cheers

Any stores selling J Wakefield around Funky Buddha, J Wakefield or on the way to Key West?

Not that I know of. I think you will have to visit the brewery to buy any cans they have in the cooler or get growlers. There are some bars that have them on tap in South FL and probably in the Keys.
