Flagler Village Brewery in Ft Lauderdale isn't worth the effort. Their beers sucked.

Invasive Species is definitely worth seeking out.

Veza Sur in Miami is actually worth visiting while in the Wynwood area. Nice atmosphere with beers equal to Concrete Beach. Combine these two places with J Wakefield and Wynwood, and you'll have a very enjoyable afternoon/evening.

I’m sure Veza Sur is a nice place considering they have the financial backing of their parent company AB InBev, but I won’t give them my money. They’ll hide their association with a foreign company whose aim is to squeeze out and marginalize local craft breweries well enough to do OK I’m sure.

Disagree on Flagler Village beers. The majority I’ve had have been really good. Maybe you tried a couple of the IPAs that have been on tap for awhile?

At Flagler I had Mo'Reka, Fort Lager Ale, McFearson DIPA, Black Haze, and Flager IPA-Citrus IPA.
I'll certainly give them another shot when I'm back in F.L. But when I was there, their beers seemed off.

I guess I should post a follow up to this considering my trip came and went:

    • J Wakefield - great place, although my timing didn't have me there during a release or anything remarkable on tap. Still a friendly atmosphere. Much smaller than I thought it would be, considering the great beers they make. But that's always the curse of projecting your fondness and imagining it to be 'bigger' in your head than it may be in reality. Still would recommend a visit.
    • The real hidden gem was the bottle shop directly up the street. It's called "Boxelder" and had a nice balance of stuff on tap and some bottles for purchase. Definitely made both worth the visit to that part of town.

Hello all, I'll be in Miami staying in South Beach Sept 22-23 with very limited windows to do anything beer related. Was thinking about heading over to Wynwood for J Wakefield and Boxelder but are there any places near South Beach I could also pick up some Funky Buddha bottles? Is Funky Buddha even allowed to be discussed on here anymore lol. Cheers and thanks for the help.

The Total Wine store at Fifth and Alton should have Funky Buddha bottles...they get pretty broad distribution these days...

If you are looking for better bottle shops Boxelder and Union Beer Store are better choices.

Fwiw, Wynwood is now associated with Craft Brew Alliance, 24% stake (Kona, Widmer, Red Hook). CBA is 32.2% owned by ABInbev. So, if we are avoiding the evil empire, we have to avoid them as well, unfortunately. This happened December 2016, btw and totally slipped under the radar.

That's literally an 8% stake of Wynwood owned by ABinbev, not large enough for me to stop going there

I agree with you on this, just pointing it out for those who don't want any $ to go to ABI.

True. I won't go to Veza Sur because of that (also a local bar gave me a taste of one of their beers and it was pretty bad, basically a diacetyl bomb).

Does J Wakefield ever have bottles available for on site consumption, or is it all draft?

All draft. On site bottle consumption would be a good idea but they seem allergic to those lately
