I will be traveling to Michigan and staying in Lansing for work from Aug 6th thru Aug 14th. Looking for recommendations for good places to pick up some of the special beers available in this part of the country. Hoping to travel to Dark Horse, Bells, Founders and maybe Kuhennen if time allows.Wont have time to travel as far as Traverse for Shorts,Right Brain etc. Any other suggestions?

I live in Grand Rapids and it seems like the "special" beers are extrememly limited if not gone already as far as breweries around here. If you stop at Founders they still should have a good supply of Frangelic Mountain Brown and Devil Dancer but that's about it. They always have great things on tap though. If you're lucky you might be around for when Bell's releases their BA Batch 9000. They just haven't said the word yet!

As for places for you to stop at you obviously have Founders, Dark Horse, and Bell's on this side of the state but If you're around Grand Rapids consider making a stop at Brewery Vivant. They have an awesome selection and a great atmosphere. If you're around Bell's don't hesitate to shoot east to Battle Creek to visit Arcadia, which might actually be a lot closer for you given you staying in Lansing. They have always been a great brewery. They should still have some Hop Rocket there as well as their Anniversary Ales bottled for purchase but don't hold me to it! I was just there a month ago.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your time here in Michigan! BM me if you have any other questions.

PS.... you're really missing out a lot by passing up a trip to Short's!

Yeah I really wanted to hit Shorts, but I am here with family on a family work project and the rest of the group are not craft beer drinkers,so I will be out voted on anything too far away (next time hopefully). Thanks for the Brewery Vivant suggestion (I actually saw someone else mention them in another post) and I will try to work in Arcadia too (heard they have good food)

Hey hey, thanks for visiting Michigan!

If you can't make it up to Short's and still want a decent selection of our brews, check out They Pyramid Scheme in downtown Grand Rapids. They usually have 10 of our beers on at all times. Plus, Hop Cat is right around the corner...

Crunchy's is the go-to place in East Lansing for a great beer list and great burgers (and other foods too).

I just want to second Vivant. I prefer Founder's beer, but honestly this is a much better brewpub to me. Food is far superior, and their beer really is excellent. Also, I don't think you can get their beer outside of Michigan. Zaison might be my favorite American interpretation of that style. It's fantastic.

Oh snap, in mid-Google, I just learned Vivant is coming to Chicago! I love this town.

I'll visiting the Kalamazoo area next week and was planning on going to Bell's, Founders, possibly Dark Horse, and a very small chance of Jolly Pumpkin. I was also wondering where would be a good place to buy Special/Limited brews? and what I should be on the look out for? I've been hearing about Short's but I have never had anything from them, and would like to try a few any suggestions?

Drakes party store or Tiffany's are good places to start.

Anything with a Shorts logo is worth trying.
