Hi all will be in New Brunswick next weekend any bottle shops in the neighborhood I should check out while I am there ?
I'd head down Rt. 18 2 or 3 miles to East Brunswick and hit Adelphi Wine Co. and Wine World on either side of the highway. (If you don't mind doing two U-turns, I'd hit Wine World first). There's yet another store, not listed here on BA yet in the same stretch of the highway on the southbound side of 18 (same as Adelphi) in the Aldi's / AutoZone shopping center called Jersey Fine Wines that was pretty new last time I was in the area (still getting organized, etc) but looked damn impressive to me.
Wine World closed down recently and apparently moved across the street and became Jersey Fine Wines. Stopped by there a few days ago and the selection looks to be good. It's a bigger space than the old Wine World so they may end up having more inventory.
Hmmm.... Interesting. I could swear I was in both stores on the same day in late December but can only find a receipt from the new one - Jersey Fine Wines. Different license number and owners according to the NJ ABC, but, yeah - whatever ---- if Wine World's gone, it's gone ---- @antman27 please note that. I thought that was a lot of liquor stores all in one small section of Rt. 18. But here's something - apparently there's a Bottle King license with the address of the former "Mattress Cowboys" store, Rt. 18 S (opposite Dunkin Donuts). Is that opened yet?
Haven't heard about bottle king but can confirm wine world closed and staff is now all at Jersey Fine Wines. I stopped going to adelphia a while ago. Same beers for the most part as jersey fine wine/wine world, but Adelphi used to be pricier. Haven't been in years. Worth revisiting anyone? Also while in New Brunswick definitely check out Harvest Moon not the best ipas but other styles are good. And if you are going to hit up a brewery nearby definitely go to Cyprus
Anything walking distance or very short uber from the Hyatt in New Brunswick that would have some local cans to bring home?
Haven't really been in the area much in the last decade or so, but based on my previous 4 decades of beer buying around there, I'd suggest an uber across the Raritan (via Albany > Raritan Ave. aka "Rt. 27") into Highland Park to the intersection with 4th Avenue where you'll find both Pino's and Rite Aid, almost catercorner to one another. The latter a rare case in New Jersey of a drug store with a liquor license. Back in the '90s (when IIRC it was a "Drug Fair" store), at least, it had a great selection. Whereas Pino's was great in the '70-80s...... when their beer selection was in a dark, catacomb-like cellar of the building across the street.
i'd have to say the best place for cans is down rt 130 at cranbury buy rite. they do growlers of local stuff too. bout 20-30 min drive shout out to that drug fair/rite aid, that place was what got me hooked on old peculier
Not really, the Hub City brewhouse is slightly better than world of beer but is still meh. But for to go options New Brunswick is pretty limited. Could check out Joe Canals Iselin or Cypress brewing, or bottled and craft, but nothing really close.
