I'm visiting Ohio and was wondering if anyone from this area have suggestions as to what I should try. I was in a grocery store for a moment today and saw a few things I had heard of before but never had an opportunity to try:

    Great Lakes Christmas
    21A Monk's Blood
    Treogenator
    Troegs Hopback
    A couple goose island offerings

Where are you visiting from? It helps to know we don't recommend things you can easily get at home. Also, what do you like? From your post though, everything I've had from Troegs and Great Lakes is great. Troegs HopBack and Great Lakes Eliot Ness are two of my favorite beers that I can find year round.

    From Florida.

I enjoy most styles. The troegenator intrigued me cause I haven't had a good dopplebock in a while. The monks blood description also looked interesting.

You will have no problem getting: Troegs, GI, Great Lakes, etc. You may want to consider stopping by The Brew Kettle. It will be about an hour drive, but well worth trip.

Hoppin Frog is in Akron, very close by as well. Also, be sure to get some Fat Head's Head Hunter, it's Phenominal.

What offerings from those breweries do you like? Mad elf isn't available, is it? That would be a nice find.

Mad Elf just shipped a week ago. I didn't see it at the store today, but I swear I saw someone post it in a recent thread.

Great Lakes makes a very respectable porter ,Edmund Fitzgerald. As for the Troegenator, I'm not a fan of the style, but in discussions about it, it's generally pretty well praised.

It depends on what style you prefer. But may absolute favorite from Brew Kettle is White Rajah. Also, Four C's and Old 21 from Brew Kettle also. Troegs Mad Elf may be available, depending on when you are visiting, it was released in the brewery last week in PA. Great Lakes Christmas Ale is not out yet. Great Lakes Elliott Ness and Burning River are worth giving a try and you should be able to find them on tap, without much effort.

Go to Thirsty Dog; Hoppin Frog could be skipped as most(all?) of their beers are on shelves. I saw Head Hunter and Columbus IPA at Acme stores in Akron. Those two beers are very good/great, especially Head Hunter. I used to live in Florida, but it was a few years back and don't know everything you cant get there that we get here.

Edit - Also Fat Head's Bumbleberry is very good. I usually have some on hand... should be easy to find.

If you're visiting Cincy, then you need to head to Party Source just over the river, and also Jungle Jims North-West of the city.

First of all, welcome to Ohio!! While in Canton, be sure to hit up the Winking Lizard Tavern there. As far as beers you have seen and may want to try, Troegs Troegenator is great as is the Hopback. Great Lakes selections are all good and Christmas Ale is around town now. Locally, Thirsty Dog, Fat Heads, Hoppin Frog and The Brew Kettle have great selections. Namely, Thirsty Dog Siberian Night, Fat Heads Head Hunter, Hoppin Frog BA Frogs Hollow, BORIS, BA BORIS, and DORIS; and, The Brew Kettle White Rajah (which there is a fresh batch out as of Sunday).

    have fun

    cheers
