I'm visiting Omaha, NE and am wondering what kinds of local beers people would suggest to try. Think IPA's and Stouts mainly...Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
Locally, I like Infusion and Nebraska Brewing. I would choose NBCs taproom over the brewpub--the taproom has a few of their barrel aged stuff and lots of one-offs. Infusion is in the Benson area, which is loaded with fantastic beer centric bars. I would also check out The Crescent Moon/Beer Corner and Beertopia.
The above advice is spot on. I have also had fun and good beer at Farnham House (next to Beertopia) and Borgata in the Old Market.
Certainly hit the Benson area. Jakes & Krug Park have great tap selections. Infusion, and Benson Brewing are worth the visit. Bread and beer cheese dip at Benson Brewing is a great complement to any night out. Nebraska Brewing has won many medals at various competitions. If you want to seek out the best of our locals hit their tap room at the brewery. Black Betty, Sexy Betty, and Cardinal Pale Ale are great beers. Buy NBC Bottles at the tap room and save a couple $'s over area retailers.
I'll flying into Omaha Wednesday and driving up to South Dakota. Any decent options near the airport or along my route north? Mainly just looking for a store to pick up a few things to take up to SD and perhaps a place to grab a pint and some food when we arrive. Definitely not lookng to go too far of my route. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
Your best bet would be Beertopia and Crescent Moon http://tinyurl.com/ke8fjfb http://beercornerusa.com/ Cheers! Jason @ Beertopia
CM & Beertopia like ^ said aren't too far from the airport. You're probably driving through Sioux City as well and could stop at the Diving Elk. We have a pretty solid tap selection and good pub food. Highlights right now include Le Terroir, Central Waters Reserve, West O CoCo stout, 10foot10, Sutliff Cider, some Bell's taps, etc. If you're going to Sioux Falls stop by Monks or JL Beers.
Thanks for making the trip to Omaha a little better. I'm going to have to hit up Nebraska Brewing Company tap-room. I love me some local beer.
Yes, those types of beers. Is there a brewery that does barrel aged beers near Omaha? If not, is there anything distributed to the area that is?
Sorry kept forgetting about this thread but yes NBC does a lot of barrel-aged beers and there are way to many sour, wild, BA beers here to list them all
Not asking you to name them. Just to mention the best spot that has those types of beers. I'll check out CM, Beertopia, & Farnam House and start with that.
