I'm heading up to Philly in a week or so to visit family. I'm usually pretty familiar with the brewing scene but I haven't been there in a couple of years and feel like an absurd amount of breweries have opened since. I'm definitely hitting Tired Hands and Vault (in Yardley). I've been to Neshaminy Creek the last time I was up. Who else should I be looking at trying? Thanks.
Another brewpub that is very worthwhile is Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery. Scott Morrison is an excellent brewer. I don't seem to see a lot of discussion about Barren Hill for some reason? Cheers!
I would definitely check out Forest & Main in Ambler. Free Will in Perkasie just opened a new tasting room which is very nice and when I went for the opening day they had a very good tap list.
Depending on when you come up, I'd suggest hitting Vault on Tuesday. They do a "Trial & Error" beer every Tuesday that is a small batch one-off that they ask for feed back and if they should brew a bigger batch of it. Their IPAs have been getting better as of late and definitely get a pizza, I recommend the brown sugar buffalo.
Thanks so far everyone. I will definitely add Forest & Main to the list. I'm going to be in town the 11th through the 15th. Unfortunately won't be there for the Vault Trial & Error but glad to hear their IPAs and pizza are worth it.
Maybe you know or maybe you do and someone else could use the information but "The Dude" has left Barren Hill. Although I'm sure his mark is still all over the brewery. There was a lot of chat about The General Lafayette years ago when it closed and went up for sale. I agree since it became Barren Hill there hasn't been much chatter. I think there has been a sea-change of posters in the Mid-Atlantic forum.
Thanks for your post. I did not know that Scott has left. I am guessing it must have been in the past few months since Scott was pouring beer for Barren Hill at the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp event this past summer. Do you know the details? When exactly did he leave? Do you know why he left? Is he brewing somewhere else now? Cheers!
Their Scotch Wallace is amazing! and their Gingerbread Jesus is a pretty good seasonal offering right now.
new locale for Yards with excellent food weekdays & weekends (with local food trucks) - definitely worth checking out, IMHO. BTW - comma not required in above sentence with 'and' separating the two . . . peace out
How long ago did they open the Tasting Room on Delaware Ave? I was first there about a year and a half ago. Not sure how long it had been open at that point.
