I have a last minute work trip tomorrow to PA. Flying into PHL and staying in Plymouth Meeting. does anyone have suggestions for me to check out? Would like to visit a couple stores and grab dinner. Thanks for the help!

you will be close enough to Tired Hands that you will have to go there. Also, not to far from Capones, great bottle shop and always a great tap selection.

As above post mentioned, have to hit Tired Hands. Plymouth Meeting Whole Foods (since it sounds like that is where you will be staying) has a pretty good selection and ability to buy 6-packs and/or singles. They also have a handful of taps to drink onsite or get growler fills to take with you.

The Whole Foods there also has a fairly decent bottle selection, and they occasionally have some interesting things on tap as well. It won't compare to what you'll find at Capone's, but their prices will almost assuredly be a bit better.

Also, assuming you have a car, I'd recommend possibly driving out to Teresa's Next Door. Their tap selection is comparable to Capone's (sometimes it's better, sometimes it's not), and they have an oustanding bottle selection as well. Also, not to knock the food put out by the kitchen at Capone's, but IMHO, it can't hold a candle to the food they serve up over at TND.

I think it would be fair to call the food at Capones more...homey, and the food at TND more gourmet. I can appreciate both of them in their own way. Sometimes I want a massive plate of gravy fries from Capones...sometimes I want a giant bowl of mussels from Teresa's.

If you're going to be hitting up Capones you could head over to Forest and Main as well, probably another 5 miles away in Ambler.

You're probably right, but after numerous meals there, I've just never been thrilled with the food there. Their wings are OK; their nachos are OK (barely), their salad plates are OK. Some of the sandwiches have been pretty good, and so are the fries there. However, that's really the best I can say about the food there. It's certainly not terrible, but by the same token, it's never something I look forward to either.

Also, if I want something decadently sinful at TND, it's really hard to beat a large serving of the frites and aoli there.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I'll definitely hit tired hands on the way from the airport. Searching for the nearest whole foods is my goto when in a new area. Will look into capones as well, I'm more of a burger and fry guy than a foodie. Thanks again?

Tired Hands and Earth are must-stops IMO. Ditto Forest and Main if you can make time to get up there (it's a little bit in the wrong direction if you're headed into the city from Plymouth Meeting). Capone's has a great always-rotating beer list and bottle shop, but the food? Meh. A lot of typical bar food items delivered on a big Sysco truck. If I were you I'd definitely eat elsewhere (I'd recommend Earth myself), even if you're just looking for a burger and fries. (There's a Sonic at the traffic light...)

Lots of good suggestions for places to go.

Permit me to opine about the food at Capone’s (note: I have had over 20 meals at Teresa’s Next Door and they do indeed have good food too). The base menu at Capone’s is basic pub grub and they do it well. The wings are very good and the Burger is excellent; don’t even consider going to Sonic when you can get a high quality burger at Capone’s. Where the chef at Capone’s really shines is with the meals on the daily special menu. The entrees on the special menu can be a tad pricey compared to the basic menu but they are worth it; high quality meals. I have had excellent Red Snapper, exquisite short ribs, very tasty baby-back ribs, outstanding clam dishes, and on and on.

And has been reported already, Capone’s has a very good tap list and plenty of hard to find beers in the beer store.

Indeed, Capone’s is a must visit on many levels.

    Cheers!

P.S. Say hi to Matt Capone when you are there. He is the beer guy and a stand up person!

Forest & Main is close to PM, 4 or 5 miles up Bulter Pike to Ambler. Do it. Think they open at 4.

Burgers and fries are where Capone's really shines, so you should have a great time there (aside from the beer selection). Really didn't mean to put the kitchen down there, as I've had plenty of good meals at Capone's, just nothing I can think of that really stood out. IMHO, TND's food is considerably better, but that's just my opinion. Nothing at all wrong with the "cuisine" at Capone's (and as others have noted, Matt C. is a great guy). Cheers!

Capones and Forest and Main aren't really in the same direction. If the OP is looking for something close (closer than TND and Tired Hands, at least) with beers you can't get anywhere else, I highly recommend F&M. They have a burger with bacon mayo that is positively delicious, and they almost always have at least one sour/brett/barrel-aged beer on. I assure you it will be a lot easier to get there than the other suggestions (467 south at dinner time with a Phillies game tonight... come on, let's just ruin the poor guy's trip!). It's maybe 10 minutes down Butler Pk, and Ambler has ample parking (which is free after 6 PM).

This is very true. They have great wings and I had an awesome chicken parm there last time (and I think it was actually cheaper than my beer). TND is amazing but to say one is better is misleading as they're both quite good in their own distinct ways.

Not to discount the Philly beer scene, but the best part of your trip will be listening to your gps struggle to pronounce "Plymouth Mtg".
