Going to be in town all day on Friday and staying the night (somewhere yet undecided, probably via AirBnB). I looked at a few threads about Phoenix but wanted to make a new thread to see if anything special might be going on that Friday. We will have a rental car and willing to do a drive a bit if it is worth it.

Besides that, if anyone has recommendations in the way of craft bars / breweries in reasonable driving distance, we are looking for suggestions. I have no idea the AZ distro, but I would be interested in finding some beers from Santa Fe Brewing Imperial Java cans if that is possible. Years ago someone sent me some in a random trade and I really liked it, and would like to revisit it.

Could also be interested in a bottle share or setting up a trade or two. Coming from Chicago I would be happy to bring some regional stuff. Are any of the local breweries cool with bottle shares? When I visitied CCB in Tampa, we arranged a large bottle share there and it was a great time. Would be awesome to do something similar in Phoenix.

Imperial Java is pretty readily available at most bottle shops around here, so you shouldn't have too much trouble tracking that one down. Papago Brewing is pretty close to the airport, Sun Up Brewing, and a bit farther away would be Fate, AZ Wilderness, or even North Mountain Brewing. Shoot me a BM when you're in town, I'd be down to meetup for a glass or two!

We visited Phoenix about a month ago over a weekend. Our itinerary didn't allow for a trip to Arizona Wilderness, which was my most wanted beer stop, but we did have dinner at Angels Trumpet and they didn't disappoint on food or beer. Alpine and AleSmith were probably the best offerings at the time and they do crowlers and growlers if you want to take something to go.

All breweries listed by jolly_lynch are top notch. Probably Papago and Sun up would be the most central to where you'll want to be staying, but can't recommend AZ Wilderness enough if you can make the 25 minute trek from central Phoenix.

Santa Fe Imperial Java cans are pretty easy to find, but the one place you are sure to find them would be one of the Total Wine locations. It's there every time I go.

That Friday a local craft bar called The Attic will be tapping a keg of KBS, so that's pretty cool. I'll be headed to the pre-KBS kick off beer dinner the day before and perhaps that Friday as well for more KBS. Never had it, looking forward to it.

If hitting the Attic, OHSO Brewery is nearby. Their beers are usually not very good and are essentially homebrew but they have lots of guest taps and a nice patio. As mentioned Papago is also close with a large beer selection including that Santa Fe Java as does Tops in Tempe which also has a nice tap selection.

Good to hear I can easily pick up the Java cans. What Alpine is regularly available?

Sounds like I'll definitely hit up AZ Wilderness, and maybe Attic just for the crowd as I have enough access to KBS.

Any of the suggested locations cool with a bottle share? I would really like to try to organize one Friday night and its always a great at a brewpub.

You should be able to find Duet as I know of a few places that have it on now. You might find some Hoppy Bday or Nelson but using TapHunter will be helpful.

As far as bottle shares go, no outside bottles into any of the locations listed (searching BYOB restaurants will be the only way that's possible). If you want, you can try and peak some interest about a bottle-share by joining the Arizona Craft Beer Lovers group on Facebook - lots of active users and very friendly people.

I am actually heading out 4/1 as well. Any chance the OP and I may find some Parabola? Getting married in Scottadale Saturday and would love to have some for it.

The first wave of parabola sold out within an hour or so at all locations. We should see more being released for at least the next 2 weeks. I think all of Arizona was getting 40 cases, maybe a little more. No bottle shares allowed anywhere, tell us where you are staying, and we can be more helpful.

We are looking at staying at a home in Lakes of Tempe. Doesn't matter too much as I am willing to drive within a reasonable distance.

Thanks for the Parabola info but we do get it in Chicago so I won't be looking to pilfer any of the 40 cases for your state.

Now tell your local brewpubs to lighten up so I can bring some Prop and Side Project to share with the good people of AZ

Arizona Wilderness is absolutely amazing!!! This should be on your "MUST DO" list ... besides that damn good beer, the food is AMAZING (pork belly sliders = unreal ... everything on menu is top notch), coupled with the fantastic service. Been to pretty much every brewery in the Phoenix area and AZ Wilderness is by far the best game in town!

I would be game for a share of sorts Friday evening. Location is always the tricky thing, but there is a Thai restaurant in Tempe that does BYOB, I've done shares there before. Let me know dude!

If anyone wants to do an IP for some parabola, I can bring some Michigan stuff like KBS or Black Note to swap.

Rather than create a new thread, can I jump in here? I'm coming out this month as well, though later in the month.

I'm staying on the west side - Avondale/Goodyear area - not good for the beer scene, right (I did some searching of this forum)? Any shops worth hitting out that way besides TW/BevMo?

Say I can talk my coworker (who has the rental car) to make one beer-related trip in the Metro Area - is AZ Wilderness>Chandler WF on the way home a no-brainer? Sub in another shop? Or do something else?

Can I find Superstition Mead on the shelf? On the shelf out west where I'm staying?

How about Logsdon? Any on the shelf? How hard was PnB this year - scratch/claw to find one, or could people get 2-3 with a few stops? Obviously, that will take a trade.

Thanks in advance for any "west side" info you can share.

You do have ground control in Litchfield, which is practically Goodyear. Talk to Ian, he has a good selection there. Maybe you can talk him into selling some vintage Parabola and Sucaba. You also have Saddle Mountain Brewery in Goodyear, give them a try. AZ wilderness and WF Chandler are about 5 miles apart, do both. Ground Control may have some Superstition Mead. Regular Logsdon like Seizoen Bretta is like $11, no Pn'B this year. Hope this helps

No place with a liquor license will allow you to do a bottle share. Alpine Ale was on tap at Papago tonight along with some other good pale ales with their mini pale ale fest including Stone Pale 2.0 that wont be released anywhere else until 4-27. My favorite pale tonight was the Odell Wolf Picker experimental pale, all of which would make great growler fills. The Attic Founders event is sold out so you may want to avoid since it will hard to get a beer that is reserved for the dinner.

Sorry I didn't message anyone last night. We ended up with a busy day and a very short stop for beer at the end of the night. We stopping in to OHSO as it was close to where we stayed and despite what another poster said above, I was more impressed with them than AZ Wilderness. Huge variety and a few small batch really off the way kegs tapped, like Mint Chocolate Gose which defied expectations and was done very well.

We are staying in Chandler at the San Marcos resort tonight. After the wedding reception I'll be opening some beers, a couple of De Gardes and a '15 Hunaphu. If anyone wants to come by and do a small share, itll be later this evening. We can hang out at the pool, should be a beautiful night. Just go ahead an direct email me so I get the message and I'll give you a better time estimate. [email protected]

Sorry to continue the threadjack, especially because the thread title has now passed, but I wanted to say THANKS for the insight in this (and many other threads).

We did wind up changing our hotel, from the west side to more of a midtown location - better beer runs :-) Even though I've moved, I think I've got a good enough lay of the land from this and other threads.

One last shot to see if anyone knows anything about Superstition Meads....are there regular/shelf varities, if so, where to find them? Same question if any of their releases are more limited.

I saw that they're doing a tasting at WF on 20th next Thursday when I'm there, so I'll probably go by and see what they have on hand then.

    Thanks again!

I'll be in Phoenix on April 28- May 2nd. Would also like some info on some Superstion meads. Do they distribute? Or should I just make the trek out there?
