I'm sure this has been asked numerous times, but i went back 2-3 pages and couldn't really find a great thread on it.

But i'll be visiting Phoenix for about a week in early July, was curious as to what MUST go to bottle shops/breweries/brew pubs I need to visit. I made a small list that was on a Tucson website/list which included:
    -Ten Fifty-Five Brewing
-Iron John’s Brewing (must try Pater Peche)
    -Dragoon (lazarus)
-Borderlands (must try citrana wild ale)
    -Sentinel Peak (brewpub)
    -1912 Brewing
    (skip Thunder Canyon and Nimbus)
    -Tap & Bottle - bottle shop/beer bar
-Tucscon hop shop - bottle shop
-Arizona Beer House - beer on tap

I'll have a car, so I don't mind driving 1-2 hours if I need to find a great gem or place. Are there any recommendations? Also, does Jester King distribute to Az?

When will you be there? no to JK in AZ, but I'll be in Tucson/Phoenix from Thursday to Monday happy to share some beer at a local brewpub or anywhere that offers BYOB

    As for (Greater) Phoenix,

    Must hit Breweries
    Arizona Wilderness
    Wren House

Great Bar - World of Beer Tempe

If you're willing to drive to Prescott, you'll have access to arguably the best mead in the country (but definitely top 2 or 3) in Superstition

This is very helpful. I wouldn't know any byob places, but if we can decide on this beforehand, i can bring one or two things from NY too. I'll be in the area the 5th-11th, not avail every day though.

Must hits would include Sun Up, McFate, Huss and Papago. Papago also serves double duty as a great bottle shop. Personally I'm not a fan of Arizona Wilderness, just because they use a lot of unusual ingredients doesn't mean the beer is good but they do have a beer geek following so you should go and make up your own mind. Other bottle shop/bar would be Tops in Tempe. Pedal Haus in Tempe was pretty solid but they just closed down for 3 months. No to JK but plenty of other great beers that you may not get in New York like Ska, Odell, Alesmith, Epic, Big Dogs, Dudes, and AZ brews Mother Road, Lumberyard, Sun Up, Huss, and Iron Johns

highly underrated...whole foods market on scottsdale road. 100s of bottles to choose from and 31 craft taps, 11 locals!

Agree on Sun Up and Papago. Best shops are Taste of Tops and Gilbert Convenience Mart if you're not into Total Wine stores. If you're in the east valley I like The Perch in Chandler. Small brewery with unique beers and atmosphere. Not a huge fan of AZ Wilderness for same reason mentioned above, but is popular.

I'm an out of towner visiting in July as well. I'll be WAY south for the week in the Ahwatukee Foothills Village area. Are you referring to the Whole Foods that is south of ASU or WAY north?

Huss is going to be the closest good spot. The Whole Foods in Chandler isn't too far but they have had bad turnover there and the current employees aren't very good. Avoid Uncle Bears even though it is close.

Why would you send him to Budweiser, that doesn't have air conditioning in the middle of summer?

Tomorrow is my day off, thank goodness, but drop me your number and I can let you know when I'm there. Always good service from my fellow co-workers. I just like to go above and beyond for fellow BA members

Sorry to revive this thread, didnt feel the need to make a new one. But Im new to the area Im staying in Glendale, looking to meet fellow craft beer fans and possibly homebrewers as well. Maybe a bottle share in the area, Im from NWI and can get 3Floyds shipped whenever.

You'll meet lots of craft brew fans simply by going to the bars and breweries. As to homebrerwers, the big homebrew club is in the east valley is called Arizona Society of Homebrewers, the westside club is almost dead these days and called Brewmeisters Anonymous. Get on FB and join Arizona Craft Beer lovers page. It's your best spot to meet people and keep up on what is going on.
