Honestly anywhere in Inner Portland. Inner east side is the better for most beer nerds. North of S.E. Powell, east of S/N.E 39th, south of... N.E. Alberta-ish? N.E. Skidmore? Look how far south Powell is from Burnside then match that north of Burnside. Difficulty east of say... N/SW 21st. Honestly downtown is a pretty solid option as I despise AirBnB and it is very centrally located, but "Inner east side" you'll be pretty good in beer terms.

actually it probably will. Apex taplist isnt an ever-changing list like a lot of places.

There are sours on tap at almost every single beer bar in Portland (plus Cascade barrel room). As for specific lambics, bottles are very easy to find but on tap is probably more rare. Bazi brasserie is a specifically Belgian beer bar so you may have some luck there

Going to bend and then Portland after Santa Rosa for Pliney the younger. Question, two nights at each place enough or should I do one night in Bend and three nights in Portland?

Depends on what ya like to do with your non-beer time. Bend is wintery this time of year, but there's still plenty of outdoorsy stuff to do. If an urban area is more your jam, then PDX. Personally, I could kill 3 days/nights in Bend, no problem, but I tend to like smaller places anyway, so......

Two nights is probably enough time in Bend. Two nights is not nearly enough time to spend in PDX. Have no idea how to fix that problem for you. :-)

    Good luck.

If your main priority is beer, I'd say skip Bend altogether. There's very little there that you won't find in Portland. And even with 4 days in Portland, you'll just barely be scratching the surface. Plus, Bend can be a pain in the ass to get to/from this time of year depending on how the weather plays out. But like @beertunes said, if you're more about the outdoorsy stuff, then Bend is your jam.

Thank you for all the advice. We are going to do 1 in bend and 3 in Portland. Only going to bend because, well the beer, and the vibe reminds me of Asheville which I often go.

How hard would it be to get there. Furthermore, how hard it is to get to Degarde from Portland that time of year?

Not generally difficult. You may be required to carry chains, depending on the weather, but that doesn't mean you'll have to use them. Highway 6 is open today, even though there's been snow in the area and there's packed snow on the road (according to Oregon TripCheck).

Also, De Garde is only open Thursday through Sunday, so you'll have to take that into account.

I assume you'll be cutting over to Bend from some point on I5. If so, that means you'll be going over one of the passes (probably McKenzie on 126 east of Eugene) to get to Bend, then crossing back over the Cascades to get from Bend to Portland. If it's not snowing, you probably won't have too bad of a time, especially if you have a 4WD or AWD vehicle. If it IS snowing, it could be dicey. Tripcheck.com can help with route planning and decision-making, but you'll definitely want to take weather conditions into consideration.

Looking at a rental within Ladd's Addition, just off Hawthorne. Looks to be a good location and close to many places I'd like to go. Any reason why this wouldn't be a great spot for a couple of nights in PDX?

Nope. That's a great area & close to tons of stuff (both beer and non-beer).

There's plenty of time for things to change, but Bend already has 2+ feet of snow, it's currently snowing like balls, and the forecast isn't projected to warm up between now and February. I never want to deter people from visiting Bend and drinking our beer, but those mountain passes are no joke in deep snow. Guajalote's advice is wise.

agreed. if you were going to do a weeklong ski/snowboarding trip and had a cabin reserved in Bend, that would be one thing. But i wouldnt even consider doing a day-trip with these kinds of conditions. Portland cant replicate the scenic beauty of Bend, but we probably get 90% of the beer

you could do something crazy and spring for the flight from portland to redmond and drive to bend. alaska has nonstop 40 minute flights. not worth it in opinion but if you're set on going to bend it might work out.
