A spur of the moment trip to Portland might come to fruition very soon, use the airline mileage or lose it. I have read the Portland summer thread on breweries, so I am cool with brewery info, my question is, what areas of Portland should i be looking for hotels?

if the mission is to be near breweries, just find the best deal on anything near downtown or inner-eastside. at that point you will have endless options within 15 minutes driving or walking

My favorite place to stay is Hotel Rose. It's right next to the Morrison Bridge, so you can take a nice walk over to Hair of the Dog, Cascade and Growler Guys. A short walk north gets you Bailey's, Deschutes and Fat Head's. Several bus lines nearby that'll take you to pretty much all the other important destinations.

So, I'm looking at a mid-December trip down, and asked a similar question in the summer "Visiting PDX" thread. A lot depends on what you want/need in a temporary domicile. For me, a clean, reasonably secure, airport motel is enough, especially considering the great public transport PDX has. FWIW, check replies 131 & 132 on this thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-portland-summer-2017-update.517158/page-4

My original inquiry was for a Thanksgiving-ish time frame, but, I've since learned that my friend Michael Dean Damron will be putting his band, I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House, back together for a one-off gig, and I'm not going to miss it.

2 notes: A; Mike D is an ex-Army Ranger, and can kick any SOB's ass. B; if you listen real close, you can hear me in chorus .
