We are aware of the major players in the area...Portsmouth, Smuttynose, Allagash, Maine Beer Co, Sebago...are there any other brewpubs/breweries we need to go to? Also, does Maine Beer Co have a tasting room/area? Any hidden gems?

    Thanks.

Edit: We are coming from NYC/CT

Rising Tide is another good Portland brewery. They bottle their beer in 22ozers. Also keep an eye out for Oxbow and Marshall Wharf on draft around Portland.

Just returned from a weekend trip to Portland, so here are some recommendations:

--Check out Sonny's for some offerings from Bunker Brewing. I had a really nice bock there (although the server we had wasn't good at describing the beers; we were just told the two Bunker beers on tap were "a bock and a belgian"). The owner of Sonny's and an employee are behind Bunker. Side notes: If the weather is nice, sit on the patio. Great brunch.

--Oxbow Brewing impressed the hell out of me. Found it on draft at Novare Res and the Thirsty Pig. Had their "Freestyle #6: Dry Hopped American Saison," just a beautiful mix of hops and belgian flavors. Seek it out.

--Mama's Crowbar is fun if you're just looking for a good beer or two (no food). It's small and cash only.

--Marshall Wharf had some nice options on draft around town. Particularly enjoyed the Little Mayhem small stout and the Umlaut Kolsch (both on tap at Novare Res).

--Rising Tide's Daymark pale ale was another decent offering.

Favorites from the trip: Oxbow, Bunker Brewing, and Maine Brewing Co. (Peeper Ale is just so damn solid)

Oxbow...forgot about them. One of the brewers down here in Philadelphia just got a new gig there. I'll add them to the list.

I took the Maine Beer Company tour last summer. I think they do it once a week (Saturday?). The tour was done by the owners (brothers), very casual. When I was there they only had Peeper to taste as they literally didn't have any Lunch or Zoe to pour. Great guys great beer, call to be sure they are doing the tour. Afterwards you could drive to Naples and have lunch at Bray's..

All my current draft accounts other than Three Tides in Belfast are listed on marshallwharf.com. Shoot me a note if you have any Marshall Wharf questions. Enjoy! Portland is a GREAT beer destination.

    Cheers!

I'll be in Belfast during 4th of July week. Can't wait to stop by and say hello. Probably drink some beer too.

Don't leave Portland without going to Novare Res.
And Brays is not worth the trip, but Ebenezer's in Lovell/Kezar Lake is a must go if you want a day trip out of town.
