Pretty much this. I thought the recent batch of Laurelwood Green Mammoth was pretty impressive as well, but otherwise it's hard to go wrong with any of the IPA's/DIPA's recommended by OregonHopmonster.

Awesome, thanks! It seems fitting to get advice from a Hop Monster.

heading down to portland for the weekend: any can't miss drafts or bottles to pick up? i'll most definitely hit up apex and HOTD, but i'm having a hard time narrowing down other spots...

also: any good wine or cocktail bars? i've been tasked with finding a place for something "other than beer" by the lady. i figure after 4 or 5 beer-centric spots, it's the least i could do. bonus points for places that have good draft lists in addition to that other crap.

This is where the GF and I like to go. It's around the corner from Tugboat, and is a short walk over to Bailey's. It's also very close to Henry's, Deschutes and Rogue. They have a chimay and a few other beer selections, but no one goes here for the beer. Food is limited to a few snacks.

If you want some spot that offers a good selection of everything (beer, booze and wine), I would recommend the M & S over at the Full Sail, River Place pub.

Cue the RIP Wildwood eulogies... would have been the perfect place!

How about Raven and Rose, good wine list, solid beer list and whiskey! They also have good food:slight_smile:

    Victory Bar.

While not exactly a romantic date spot, good cocktail list, decent wines, and a very nice European import-focused beer list. The spatzle is a must order, arguably the best in the United States. Definitely more of an East-side Portland experience than some of the others mentioned, but I highly recommend it.

My wife always wants a good cocktail. A few of her faves. I don't mind them either:

Farm Cafe on E Burnside has great cocktails, a solid taplist, and good food.
Clyde Common downtown also has good cocktails, happy hour from 3-6 daily, and an acceptable taplist. Plus good people watching.
Oooh, or how about the Woodsman on SE Division? More good cocktails, decent beers, and a really great selection of (expensive) oysters.

I'll throw in another vote for Farm Cafe, especially if you're looking for a more intimate vibe. They have one of the more locavore centric menus in town, and while the beer selection isn't huge it is usually very well curated and seasonal.

Also, if you aren't opposed to spending a bit of money I can't recommend the Laurelhurst Market highly enough. Some of the best steaks in town, incredible cocktails, more than enough good wine to keep any wine snob happy, and a beer list that will usually satisfy anyone.

Id also add Produce Row, beer and whiskey pairings!

Farm is a great rec too.

For great cocktails, and a decent beer list, check out Kask, the cocktail bar attached to Grüner, which also has great food.

cool, farm cafe is right next to doug fir, which is where we will be for a show tonight. and victory bar is only a few blocks away from where we are staying. that should be easy enough.

    thanks for all the recommendations!

A moderator deleted my last post for being a little too snarky (where's your sense of humor?), but all joking aside, it is certainly relevant to inform current visitors about the e coli outbreak in the city water. Seems like an important part of beer drinking is hydrating…

Seriously, current visitors, careful of the water you consume.

So i just decided 4 hours ago to spend a few days in my favorite city in America and low and behold its goddamn PDXBEERWEEK. Now I'm sure that means very little to you natives with your ridiculous perennial options and what seems like a different beer festival every other day but i have to ask is there anything great on the event calendar fro SUN MON TUE or WED?

If it means anything I'm staying in NW area and will be renting bikes/taking MAX...and seeing as many events seem food oriented its worth pointing out i don't eat meat. thanks for any suggestions.

I didn't see a thread specifically for the beer week so i thought it'd be okay here...

BTW: this thread rules and you guys are amazing for putting it together and actually updating it....
Even though I've been to Portland quite a bit i really appreciate it.

I think tomorrow's New School New Breweries event at Bailey's Taproom looks good. Ten new Oregon breweries pouring two beers each.

Also: Good call on renting a bike. It's a great way to explore the city and the weather should be nice for the duration of your stay.

It is a bit of a ride (I should know, I will be making it myself), the Hellshire IV Deconstructed event at Roscoe's on Wednesday sound really cool.

Would like to get Boneyard in growlers but looks like there's no shops with fills that have multiple Boneyard ipas on tap right now? If anyone could narrow down a single spot, that would be really helpful. Interested in Hop Venom, RPM, and hopefully Notorious.

Portland city grill is a great date place, but beer isn't all that great but good cocktails.
