Thanks for all of your help.

Thursday night was pre-interview, so I took it easy I hit Back Pedal Brewing. Beers were good, the sours were definitely the stars, cool place and great staff. I then when to Fat Heads for dinner.

Friday night I hit Beer O'clock and had lots of solid beers. I really liked the peach sour. After beer O'clock I headed over to Sizzle Pie and had some dinner.

Saturday started at Great Notion. There was a line for Pine State Biscuits that wrapped around to the brewery, but there were about 20 people there at open for GN. There was also a line for Salt & Straw as well. The beer here was definitely the highlight of the trip. All the IPAs were delicious as was the double stack. The blueberry muffin beer was sadly not on tap, something to look forward to. Next up was Scout brewing, really cool space, really cool bartenders, but the beer offerings sadly were not all that good. It was also weird that they had food available but the bartender didn't ask me if I wanted a food menu. I then went to Apex and they had a surprisely pedestrian list of beers on so I had to suffer through a Pliny. Walked through Ladd's Addition to get an idea of some housing stock, and then hit a little Thai place called Kala's. It was fantastic.

Sunday morning I hit Irving St for brunch. The Bloody Mary was great, as was the Moroccan poached eggs.

Finally the interview went well, hopefully I'll get to try some of the other recommendations on here.

    Cheers!
    Keith

Glad to know GN had double stack! Hopefully they'll have it this week when I come up!

Their tap list is updated via untappd and shown on their webpage.

This thread is much appreciated, has helped me narrow down the choices for my brief trip. But...my brother is more of a football fan than beer fan, so on Sunday morning is there a good place where we could watch some NFL games while I continue to get my beer geek on? Belmont Station (already on my itinerary based on friends' recommendation) doesn't look like it will work. We're staying at the Doubletree on Multnomah, close to that would be cool but we'll have a rental car or can uber/lyft if my bro wants to imbibe, so pretty flexible.

Bonus question: how early will we have to line up at Screen Door on a Friday night to avoid a long-ass wait?

Thanks for any help; and I wish all you NW peeps well in dealing with the fires.

Closest place would be Spirit of '77, roughly .5 miles away. You can check out their TV schedule online to make sure they'll be showing the game(s) your brother is interested in. My favorite spot for watching football is Belmont Inn on 33rd and Belmont. It's classic dive bar atmosphere, but they've got ~20 taps and enough TVs that they can show every game that's playing at any given time.

Get there 15 minutes before they open at 5pm and you should be good to go for the first seating.

Saraveza would be a good pick for football, too. They're a Packer bar if that matters.

My personal favorites are Claudia's and Blitz Ladd.

I like Claudia's for the same reason Chris (maltmaster420) likes Belmont Inn. It's deliciously divey, but with decent food and a tolerable tap list (around 12 or 13 tap options). Blitz is more your typical sports bar, but with 40 or so different beers on tap. Food is OK (fairly typical pub grub, but done fairly well).

Claudia's is pretty decent size (two good size rooms, one with pool tables), and of course they have the NFL ticket (and show all the games). I'd guess they have 20 or so TV's with one large projection TV. Blitz is huge, with maybe 4 or 5 different good size rooms (?). I'd guess they have at least 50 or 60 TV's (and of course also have the NFL ticket), with a couple of huge, large screen TV's. Claudia's seems to get a seedier crowd then Blitz (one of Claudia's charms IMHO), whereas Blitz's gets more of your frat boy and "old college chums" crowd.

One thing both places have in common is that they're POPULAR!!! I would recommend getting to both places fairly early if you want to get a table (or even a seat on some days).

    Have fun.

My, oft reapeated, advice is this: pick the bar that has what you're looking for. The beer will be there. Choose "spoartsbar"; they will have an interesting taplist. That's just how we roll 'round these parts. Enjoy your visit!

    Always good advice.

A quick word for another option: For those times I'm looking for non-local sports, or local sports I don't have a ticket for, the SE Portland Growler Guys gets it done right. Two screens, two decent food options right next door, and 40 taps that always have excellent choices. And you're perfectly situated for post-game beer hunting.

Yepper. Plus, when I was there on Sunday, the staff confirmed that just as they did last year, one of the TV's will have NFL redzone showing during football season. For days when I just didn't feel like dealing with the crowds at Claudia's or Blitz Ladd, or when GG happened to have on several beers I really, really wanted to drink, that was a Godsend last year.

And say you want to meet up with your mates for an impromptu bottle share during the Sunday entertainment, GG has always been cool about allowing that sort of thing as well.

Maybe give Blitz Ladd a call to see if they're showing it? The website says they show all the UFC pay per view fights ($5 cover for those), so I wouldn't be surprised if they're showing the Canelo fight as well. Sounds like the sort of thing I would expect them to be all over. You could also give Claudia's a call as well, as they're another sports bar that tends to show every sporting event on offer.

Both bars have big NFL TV show time commitments on Sunday, but as the fight is slated to begin after the last Sunday evening game, I have to think one of those places will be showing the fight (if not both).

    Good luck.

Thanks, I'll check those out. The fight is Saturday I think, so NFL shouldn't be a problem.

The Ducks game is at 4pm tomorrow and the Timbers play at 6:30, so those might be on a lot of places.

LOL! I really am brain dead today. Shows what kind of a day it's been at the office. For some reason I thought today was the 14th (as I do know that the fight is on 16th).

Yeah, with the fight slated to begin at 10:30 (I think I read online), there shouldn't be too much competition for other events on TV.

Horse Brass and Apex seem to regularly have Plinly/other RR beers on tap (at least most times I end up at those places). Oddly found it at Blitz Ladd too randomly but no idea if it was a one time thing or what since I don't go there often.

Just to expand on Strangestbrewer's response...

I think PDX continues to receive monthly deliveries of RR beer, which always includes kegs of Pliny as well (we no longer get bottles of pliny). As a result, you can periodically find pliny on tap at a lot of different places in town, though it seems to be pretty random. Apex has Pliny on tap quite often (they also charge the highest price for it in town as well), and they're just up the road from Blitz Ladd (should you end up heading over there for the fight). As far as I know, the Horsebrass has the only dedicated RR tap handle in town. They alternate between Blind Pig and Pliny, but will always have one or the other on tap.

The Apex online taplist is always current, so you can rely on what you see there (in other words, if the online taplist shows that pliny is currently on tap, you can be sure it really is on tap there). The Horsebrass online tap list is updated every couple of days, so if you see something on the taplist that you really, really want to drink (like pliny), it would probably be a good idea to give them a call before heading over to buy a glass.

    Have fun.
