Visiting Portland (Winter 2016 update)

    Portland people on Reddit seem to be pretty negative. The "roughest" parts of Portland feel 10x safer than the safer parts of Philly.

    Or Baltimore for that matter!

    At least IMO, the homeless problem in PDX is more of an eyesore issue than a safety issue. Obviously, as others have mentioned, don't leave easy to grab items out in plain sight, and be sure to keep the car locked, but otherwise, I think there is little to be concerned about from the homeless population in PDX (at least that's always been the case during my frequent visits).
