Iggy's is really solid for fried seafood but Oakland Beach itself is a dump. To me, it's not worth coming up from South County to experience it. stick with Iggy's down in Narragansett.

Mew's Tavern in Wakefield has a pretty good beer list and food is solid.

Brickley's is a must for ice cream.

Yup the OB area is improving but you want to stay in the public areas for sure. Really the natural gem in Warwick is the old Rocky Point amusement park, now a state park. They leveled most of it and graded it out, so there is a grass field hundreds of yards long from the parking area down to the water. Bike/pedestrian path along the water as well, and I hear a fishing pier will be going in. They kept a few historical pieces of the old park, like the arch which came from the 1964 World's Fair in NY.

That said, if you are in south county during the summertime, stay near Narragansett and enjoy! With maybe a trip over to Newport if you wish...

With Proclamation in the larger facility, how is distribution? Can I find at Pier Liquors or Wakefield? If not, I’ll try to make the drive to Warwick.

I believe their draft distro is a lot more widespread locally than cans. It seems Mass gets more can drops than RI (makes sense seeing as the brewery is no more than a half hour from almost anywhere in RI). You can try Pier first then head up north if nothing there.

Will reiterate much of the above - but if you're anywhere near Kingston at all, go to Shaidzon. Josh is making some killer beers across a spectrum of styles. Buffalo Czech is my favorite beer in RI right now. Aside from Proc, nobody else in the state can make much aside from an IPA. And even Proc has steered more towards the IPA cans as their funky stuff ages.

Anyway, enjoy your trip - this state has come a long way in 5 years!

I haven't been, but is Sons of Liberty worth a stop if he's down there? Like the idea of having beers and whiskey in a taproom setting.

Just got back from Pier, no Proclamation. Surprised to see Aeronaut.
Some others that I need to research before committing to 4/6 pack.
    Solid seletion overall.

Venture up to Cranston before Providence and check out Revival Brewing Company.
They have much to offer in addition to IPAs.
    Don't miss Whalers in Wakefield.

Its a cool spot. The beer is ok, nothing that will blow you away. The whiskey is a bit young but worked well for an old fashioned. They have done some interesting things distilling beers as well. I didn't try any of thier other spirits outside of the bourbon and the distilled beers. Food truck, music...I'd go back.

I'll probably be checking them out next weekend. I drive by it 20+ times a summer to/fro 2nd beach. Hard to beat the location for that purpose but sorta in the middle of nowhere if you're planning to hang around newport for the day.

Early indications on untappd seem a little underwhelming but I'm not one who needs the best beer ever for sitting in a bar in a nice location. If it's solid it's a place worth stopping for me.

Don' Miss is a little strong. Go to Whalers for a nice place to hang out, not necessarily for the beer quality.

I went on Thursday and loved it. They have lots of tables outside and even a few in between the vines. Food at the restaurant was pretty good as well.

I'll go back for sure. Its great because it also has wine for those who aren't into beer (and vice versa).

Stopped at Long Live before dinner on the hill for my last night in RI...super impressed. Cool space, great vibe, but more importantly, really stellar beer. Had a pour of Double Romantic Extra, which absolutely blew me away, followed by a pour of This Is How We Do It which was really good. My girlfriend had their spruce IPA, which while not something I would want a whole can of was pretty interesting.

Wonder why they don't get more hype around here. Might have to pass up getting Tilted Barn cans for them next time I'm in town.

I was in Newport 2 weekends ago for a wedding and we ate dinner at Brix Restaurant which is at the same location as Taproot at the Newport Vineyard. They serve both the wine and the Taproot beer which is great if you have a mixed crowd. The food was really good too.

They only had 6 beers on tap, so small selection. I had pints of the Porter and the NEIPA. Both were solid to style.

Buttonwoods had good beer, but the brewery taproom is unpleasant if its hot out.

Two weekends ago we cut our visit short, as it was about 90 degrees in there and smelled like a wet nutsack.

The porter and NE IPA were very good. If you are going to eat, I'd wait for an outside table. Or at a minimum grab some beers and take them outside and sit between the vines.

Food wise, the pretzels were great tasting and value. I think $5 for three soft baked ones with two dipping sauces. Cheese board was good, though the bread was not fresh. Fish chowder was average. I'll order the lobster roll next time I go.

    Enjoy.
