Fiance surprised me with a trip to san diego during SDBW. Having never been before, any recommendations as to what events we should definitely go to? Bought tickets to the VIP Brewer Takeover friday night but am fairly in the dark as to other must hit spots. Even just restaurants/brew pubs that we should check out while we are there would be great. Thanks in advance.
I think he specifically meant "any recommendations as to what events we should definitely go to?" during SDBW. Not saying that the guide won't help though.
From his post: As far as SDBW events, there's another thread on the front page of the Pacific forum - http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/san-diego-beer-week-sdbw-2014.217792/
Yup, that should do it. I actually posted the link to your thread, but deleted it since I think he meant he is just interested in SDBW events, "even just restaurants"
The events are tough to nail down. I personally am going to each event for a brewery I cannot get easily out here, like "Surly Comes To Stone" and the RR tap takeover at EAH (even though we can get RR rather easily...or at least easier than some other ones). Really I would just take the afternoon and spam your way through that sdbw.org events site. Note, the cops will be out in force, so have a DD, use uber (which each pub has a "free $20 ride" pass for since they are all competing), or taxi (ick, expensive), or just do events close to one another. Just be safe. The one event that it would seem most BA'ers are staying away from, or expressed negative feelings towards, is the "World's Largest Bottle Share" one since really there won't be choice beers there or if there are you end up sharing a choice beer with someone that brought Stella or a Stone IPA. But if that is your thing then hey more power to ya. I like to start off each SDBW with a trip to Stone for their Rare Beer Breakfast. Not sure if tickets to that are still available but I always found it to be a nice way to start the weekend/beerweek. Cheers and welcome to SD! pssst....bring jester king bottles.
