Well, those are breweries I didn't visit :stuck_out_tongue:...this time.
I've been to them before. Wasn't my first time in SD, but it was for the longest duration.

Just checking - sounds like you pretty much hit every other one. I need to get to Colorado and do the same.

I always try to do the same when I get out to Denver, but every time I find myself going to TRVE and then Crooked Stave....then 3-4 days go by and the chair has an indentation of my ass and luggage is full of nightmare bottles.

Yeah, the list is long of those I missed. 130 or so breweries SD county! When I travel anywhere I try to hit breweries whose beers don't make it to CO.

Can't really go wrong with those 2. TRVE now has a production facility so more bottles! Two others you should hit up, b/c they don't...probably never will...bottle, are Bierstadt (German beers; excellent stuff!) and Hogshead (English, cask). And probably try Comrade for their IPAs and Jalapeno blonde.

Some of the newer breweries still need some tweaking, but overall things are looking good over here.

Has anyone been to pita guy's, half a mile from lost Abbey?

I went there yesterday, and it was awesome. I'd likely recommend it if you like Mediterranean food. I would go there again today, but it's closed on Sundays.

I'm visit from up north this week. I'm staying in the mission valley/hotel circle. I have a car.

Today, I'm heading up to the Miramar area. Based on this thread, I am planning to go to white labs for homebrew geekery, ale smith, and ballast point Miramar.

Can anybody suggest places to eat in the area? I saw Rigoberto's mentioned in previous posts. Any others?

    How is mikeller?

Any other beer spots in the area that I'm missing? FYI, I'm going to Kearny Mesa and San Marcos on other days.

Mikkeller is quite nice. Very relaxed atmosphere with about 18 taps right now.

As for food, there are a slew of small eateries all up and down miramar rd. I am partial to Rigobertos but in the same little strip mall area there is a pizza place as well as Supernatural Sandwiches which I am told is quite fantastic if you enjoy seafood.

Yeah Supernatural Sandwiches has some killer food. Not cheap, but it's delicious. That'd probably be my choice if I was in the area.

I've only been to Mikkeller a couple of times during the week but the tap list was always good and it was indeed very laidback.

Sorry I just saw this now. I would have shown you around White Labs if I saw this in time. Hope you had a good visit!

I love this thread and everyone in it.

First time to sd next th-Sunday. Will be with the wife and 2.5 yr old daughter staying on Coronado island. Will be going to the zoo on Friday. Looking to hit a few breweries close by during Friday evening and Saturday day and also the best bottle shop nearby. Will have a car and obviously uber if I want to venture out on my own. Any suggestions for those as well as good seafood and carne tacos in the area would be well taken.

    Thanks!

You appear to be here towards the end of our San Diego Beer Week. As such I would recommend taking a gander at sdbw.org for the days you will be here if you want to check out some events.

I am biased by I feel that one of the best events that week is still Alesmith's Grand Prix (12-16 different one-off variants of speedway that all get voted on and occasionally they will start to produce the winner or top few on a larger scale), also the brewery is nice.

Some one else can help you out with food in that general area since I am not much for being on Coronado Island, but I can say that an uber to 30th street (North Park) would be in your best interest for adult beverages.

Thanks reaper. We will venture off the island. What are the best breweries closest to the island that you would recommend?

I would either hit up Coronado Brewing right there, uber to 30th street and hit up the satellite tasting rooms as well as Toronado, or uber over to Modern Times (also has satellite tasting room on 30th) in Point Loma and then take a quick uber from there down to Liberty Station for Bottlecraft as well as Stone's Liberty Station location. Plenty of food there. The times I go to Bottlecraft I usually grab a charcuterie board or else some sausage from Mastiff. I tend to not eat at Stone but rather sit at the bar and have a beer or else go outside into the little gardens and play bocce ball (yay old man games!)

This will keep you around the area. Venturing to other clusters of breweries would be a bit longer of a drive/uber, say about 20ish minutes.

In addition to what Reaper said (and really, Coronado Brewing is your single best bet being on the island already), I'd take the ferry over and then walk/uber/pedicab/tram it over to Little Italy. You can hit up Bottlecraft and Ballast Point there. Ballast Point and Stone will likely be the friendliest in the area to little kids.

If you do stay on the island, Leroy's Kitchen has good food and a fine tap list.

Reaper's suggestions are on point. If you do go to the Zoo, North Park is a quick drive to the NE where you can hit up any of these breweries/tasting rooms all within walking distance: Thorn St, Modern Times, Mike Hess, North Park Beer Co, Rip Current, Fall Brewing, Barn Brewing. Good bars in that area: Toronado, Tiger! Tiger! (also has good food). Bottlecraft North Park is a great bottle shop and it's right near the corner of University and 30th in the middle of it all.

    For food in that area:
    -Seafood:
=Tostadas for really great ceviche tostadas.
=Pete's Seafood and Sandwiches just south of Modern Times for lobster rolls and NE style seafood.
    -Tacos:
=City Tacos across University from Bottlecraft has really good fancy tacos. Salsa bar is on point too.
=Tacos la Perla is in the same complex as Modern Times taproom and you can order the tacos to eat at MT. They're pretty solid.
=Across 30th from Modern Times is Amorcito Corazon which also has solid tacos/burritos.
=Colima's - this is a hole in the wall taco shop, but everything they make is pretty great. This has become my comfort food go-to since I moved to SD.
    Other:
=Grand Ole BBQ y Asado - if you like Texas style BBQ, just go here. Its right around the corner from Thorn St Brewery and it's BYOB so either grab a growler from Thorn St or stop at Bottlecraft before you go. The lines get long on the weekends, but it's worth it. The brisket and beef ribs are heavenly, but they only have them at dinner. Sunday they are only open for lunch and do Argentinian style bbq and it's also awesome, but no texas bbq that day.
=Carnitas Snack Shack - pork-centric menu and the food is good. They usually have some decent beers on tap too.

Hamiltons is pretty easy to get to from Coronado, but you'd also be closer to all the other 30th st mentions at that point.

Also if you go to the zoo you could grab a beer at Panama 66 inside balboa Park near the art museum. They have some nice outdoor seating and good food .

Out of the north park breweries recommendations depend on the style of beer you prefer. For ipa modern times and fall are my favorite with rip current close behind. Rip current also does some excellent stouts and German styles .

Otherwise if you do end up taking the ferry across to downtown you should hit up Karl Strauss and stone tasting room on ketner and resident brewing inside The Local . Karl Strauss is a local staple and has my favorite local wit and excellent stout and ipa .
