Also as of note, Cellar3 usually doesn't have that many Alpine offerings. Right now the only one on there is Duet, whereas the main GF facility has Duet, Nelson, Hoppy Birthday, Single Out, Hop Boxed, Willy, Pitcher Perfect, and Irish Red.

Granted this can change at any time, but I would venture a guess that you would be better off going to the main GF facility to satisfy your Alpine cravings.

Making the trip back to SD next week. I've been to Stone in Liberty City, Ballast Point Little Italy (and Bottlecraft across the street), and Karl Strauss. Loved them all and wouldn't mind hitting them up again. Its a work trip which only leaves the nights open but fortunately one of those days ends in Alpine, CA. What suggestions would you make for someone staying in Point Loma (on the same street as Modern Times) with a car. One downside is I'm travelling solo so realistically its one spot per day.

I would suggest returning to Liberty Station / Liberty Public Market. There is now a Bottlecraft in that location as well as plenty of nice little eateries. Grab your pint and just walk around.

Also a new alehouse opened up on the other side of Rosecrans from Modern Times, Old Town Public. The same people that run Encinitas Ale House and La Jolla Public House.

Great thread and very helpful for my upcoming vacation.
Flying in from Chicago, will be in the area for 4-5 days. Definitely want to bring home some beer I can't get in Chicago. It seems like the Best Damn Beer Shop is the beer store to visit. Does anyone know if BDBS will ship whatever I pick off their shelves? Or am I better off bringing an empty suitcase and just fly it home with me? Thanks!

Doing consulting for a supermarket in the SD area. Their distribution warehouse is in Alpine.

Well that works out very well for you. Just a random place to business trip to, seeing as most non-beer nerds in ca have no idea where that city is.

Well I think you're getting a shit ton of advise so I'll throw my $.02 cents in too. If you make it to Modern Times then Coronado Brewing is just a stones throw away,, well about a mile, And if you make it to the North Park or South Park area I second Fall Brewing. Underbelly is not a brewery but has good local stuff on tap and good food. Not far down the road is The Abby (nothing to do with Lost Abby).. They have something like 40 ish beers on tap. You should have no problem trying a few local brews there, nothing to go there though. If you'r near Mission Valley area, you're near me and there's three brweries all within 1/4 mile of each other... Groundswell, Benchmark, and Kensington. Not sure Kinstington has to go stuff yet but the other two do. Let us know where ya at when you're drinkin' I'm sure someone here would love to have round with ya

Day #1, went to Petco to catch a Padres game. I'm amazed at the craft beer presence there. Got Mike Hess Orange Solis, Karl Strauss Red Wagon, Ballast Point Watermelon Dorado, and St. Archer IPA. Just an incredible experience.

You watched the most boring sport on Earth and drank some of the most mediocre beers San Diego has to offer...

If you honestly thought that was an incredible experience, I can't wait to see how you describe visiting some place like Toronado.

If you do this again, which I recommend because I love baseball, walk around a bit more and find some benchmark, monkeypaw, speedway (at the ryan's brothers coffee stands). There is also a little section next to Seaside market (1st base side field level) that usually has about a dozen or so random taps plus a cask on fridays. Also Seaside market with the tri-tip nachos....mmmmmm......

Can only assume you not only don't like America's pastime, but you haven't been to another ballpark. Petco has far and above one of the best selection of craft beers at any past and probably current baseball stadium. Baseball fans are spoiled here.

This guy is coming from NY where Shea/Citi and old/new Yankee Stadium had/have garbage offerings and while Nats stadium in DC has, I believe, a couple carts now devoted to craft and a decent selection behind CF, my first walk around Petco last year was definitely an incredible experience. Granted I'd skip all the beers he mentioned and go straight for the Speedway or Hoppy Aureolis.

    But yes, very true.

I'll be in Little Italy area today hitting up Ballast Point tasting room and Bottlecraft. Any recommendations on Mexican food in the area? Thx

    That's correct.

    Also correct.

Oh, I wasn't knocking the selection at Petco at all, last time I went I was impressed by what was available, albeit at stadium prices. However, with that selection, if you order a Karl Strauss Red Trolley and a Hess...well, a Hess anything...you've not maximized your opportunities.

Bingo. I mean, you'd still be at a baseball game, but at least you'd be drinking good beer.

Looks like no place to sit and eat at Mex Fiesta. Does Bottlecraft allow outside food inside?
