Hey some friends and I are visiting Scottsdale (staying at the hyatt regency) 12/31 - 1/3. We'll be with significant others so can probably convince them to do 1-2 breweries/brewpubs....which would you guys say we have to go to? Cheers, and thank you in advance
Fate Brewery is a MUST! http://fatebrewing.com Another suggestion would be Four Peaks: http://www.fourpeaks.com I have all of the Arizona microbrews and locations on my site: http://pintnerd.com/arizona-breweries-list/ AZ Microbrew Map: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/viewer?mid=zzC77CAS-5oc.kK4UpT3EKrts&usp=sharing
Agreed that Fate is a must as it is very good and very close to the Hyatt. AZ Wilderness is a bit of a hike (25 minutes) but makes great, great beer. Worth twisting the arm of a significant other... If that's too far I would recommend Papago, then OHSO. Papago has nice beers that are brewed elsewhere I believe, and good guest taps from all over. OHSO's house brewed beers have been just ok in my experience, but they have a wide range of AZ guest taps. Hop Doddy Burger Bar is also close to where you are staying. It's neither brewery nor brewpub but I enjoyed the food and they had a nice craft selection when I was there.
No idea on growler fills, but I had a pint of Coconut Joe at lunch yesterday and it is a great beer. Avoid the food at Papago though. Everyone was very disappointed in our meal.
Papago just isn't a good trip. Yes, the beer list is great, but the service is so horrible there and the acoustics are terrible. OHSO is much better and it's not even close.
Hop Doddy was soooo good. Gourmet burgers, gourmet milkshakes... semi-decent beer list. Salivating just thinking about it.
Papago and Fate are both must visits and both places do growlers of any beer on tap. Both places have great food and I always get great service at both places. If Papago is loud just go into the back room. Its a lot quieter in there. I'd recommend the Pablo Honey Pizza at Fate and the Flammenkuek at Papago. We're expecting rain so that puts a damper on the patios at OHSO and Four Peaks but they are nice.
ohso, fate, wilderness and four peaks would be the required visits. for good eats and decent beer, british open pub. you might try hitting this guy up. have done a few tours with them and they normally swing by most of those places listed. open to being customized too. https://www.facebook.com/AZBreweryTours
In addition to the fine breweries previously mentioned, highly recommend Angles Trumpet Ale House. Decent food - great beer selection.
