On a related note, who is on top of the unofficial power rankings for hops in Seattle right now? I visit frequently for work but don't live there. Seems Reuben's and Cloudburst are generally regarded as the best (Reuben's #1 for me). Fremont hops don't blow me away but are reliable (Cowiche is really good, though). Anything from Stoup or other places I'm missing?

Seems GN would slide in near the top for IPAs, right? Even ignoring their stouts and berliners.

It helps with state taxation and distribution laws. A good family friend who owns an Oregon brewery is contemplating a WA outpost for similar reasons.

Mirage, Georgetown and Holy Mountain make really good hoppy beers, too. Branch outside the city (and really, their beers are easily obtainable) and Matchless is in there, too.

Love Bodhizafa... will need to check out Mirage as I haven't tried anything from them yet.

And yeah, Holy Mountain rarely does wrong by any style.

Mirage does one retail can release every month of one-off IPAs/pilsners and has some random draft only beers from time to time. Very small operation.

IMHO Stoup consistently makes the best hoppy beers in the city

Probably depends on what you're looking for in an IPA. If your taste runs to hazy, adjunct laden, low bitterness IPA's, than I completely agree with you. GN would be at or near the top (though personally, I would still put Reuben's ahead of them).

If you're not a fan of that style, or if you prefer your IPA to have some significant hoppy bitterness, then I'm not sure GN would even make the top 10.

All just a matter of taste and personal preference.

I'm gonna go with Georgetown here. Bodhi and Lucille year-round, Johnny Utah, and some awesome fresh hops, and the brewery-only stuff.

One of the Hobos went to the Seacow game on Monday, and brought back some growlers that we knocked off last night. All very good. IMHO, unless ones definition of "IPA" is exclusively the Murkbombs, I don't know that Grape Lotion would make the top 20.

I need good WCIPA in my life too. Seems Cloudburst maybe has the most consistent offerings for that? Or elsewhere?

    Every. Single. Brewery.

Big Time has a mad whack history of great IPAs, yet, even we rarely talk about them here.

Urban Family seems to do OK brewing Murkbombs and kettle sours, other than them, I can't seem to think of a single brewery that doesn't brew at least a couple "traditional" IPAs.

Yeah, I know everyone makes one. Was curious who people think do it best.

Hard to beat the Bodhizafa, IMHO. If you come across any IPA's from Barley Brown (Oregon brewery), I would recommend them as well (Pallet Jack in particular).

Except for breweries like Chuckanut or Heater Allen (Lagers) and Garden Path, Atwood, or Propolis (wild/funky stuff), just about every brewery, no matter how big or small, is gonna make an enjoyable example or two. The concept of "best" comes down to personal preference. It's really splitting hairs.

But yeah, Barley Browns is a must hit if you see it.

Georgetown makes killer WCIPAs that aren't named after Point Break characters.

Just thinking of the restaurants list off the top of my head - Barbecue Smith is no more (as a brick and mortar) and Bramling Cross will be closing soon. Barking Dog Alehouse should definitely be added.

What happened with Barbecue Smith? Just couldn’t make enough to stay afloat? Their taplist was always lackluster in comparison to both Chucks spots.

Thanks for all the tips in this thread. Closing out my Seattle trip with a visit to Seapine before heading to the airport. Cheers!
