No one is leveling those accusations at The Yard House. All we were attempting to do is explain our reluctance in going based on experiences at similar places (namely as has been mentioned before, The Tap House).

Look at it this way: you're telling us it has the best collection of beer you've found based on your travels in Seattle but you've already admitted you only visited places you can walk to. We live here. I can look at that tap list and tell you based on the many places I've visited here that it isn't anything special.

In any case, I don't know how long you're in town for but you really should venture out. Even if you just take the bus, it's a short ride to a lot of great places.

@HectorB On a similiar note. I'm flying out to NYC tonight. Any recommendations?

I appreciate your candor and hope you have/had a good visit. I think most of us are just saying that the best parts of Seattle can't be found downtown (as is equally true in a lot of cities). I for one think it's a shame when someone comes all the way out here and, for whatever reason, doesn't at least venture out into a few of the neighborhoods. Several of the people responding to this thread (including me) chose to move here from somewhere else and, speaking for myself only now, really love it here and want other people to experience the same Northwest that we know. Personally I don't think a visit to this part of the country is complete without getting in a couple good hikes up in the Cascades and Olympics, but of course I realize most people are not able to swing that.
Any chance you'll be in Yonkers or West Nyack?

I will amend my post above --- When Yard House achieves "highly recommended" status by a number of local BAs commenting here in this forum, I will commit to adding Yard House to the "Highly Recommended Beer Bars" list.

Nice timing on the thread - I am going out to Seattle for one whole night next week. Being from the East Coast - whats the disro like in Seattle? Are there any other world class stouts or IPAs that only get distro to the Northwest US? I've never been North of Santa Rosa, CA and am not sure what I should be on the look out for. I'm looking for stuff that would be considered "readily available" since I'm only in town for one day. Thanks!

Since we aren't only including Seattle, I would add Special Brews up north to the bottle shops list. Great selection, Really nice, knowledgeable staff.

I'm never quite sure what the term "world class" means, but we have plenty of great local options. If you're staying downtown, check out Pear Market. If you're willing to get out to the neighborhoods, check at Bottleworks and/or Chucks.

Crap. I meant to include them. I'll do my best to do so with the summer update. Thanks for the reminder.

stouts: look for fremont bourbon abominable (or, as we call it, b-bomb).
IPAs: breakside flagship IPA (22oz) and bale breaker top cutter (6 packs). if you're willing to fill a growler, this category gets outrageous.

Harrington, I recently visited. If you are staying downtown and pressed for time, you can find RPM, Hop venom, Crikey, and Space Dust on tap at Yard House. All world class IPAs in my book. I also found Top Cutter in cans at Pear Deli.

For stouts, I really liked Dark Star and Black Raven Grandfather Raven, also at Pear Deli. Fremont B-Bomb is also amazing, but its more of a bareleywine.

If you have time you should not miss Pine Box, just a short walk north from the heart of downtown, if for no other reason than to try Holy Mt. Third Nail. Best, most creative beer i tried on my trip. Not sure exaxtly what it is (belvian IPA?) but it is wonderful.

    Hope you enjoy hour stay!

Yep, Third Nail is a Belgian pale aged in white wine barrels. Good stuff. Not sure if bottles are still available @ the brewery.

Third Nail bottles are long gone. They've got lots of stuff bottle conditioning at the moment (Gose, peach sour, The Goat, etc.).

Seriously, if you're in town go to Holy Mountain and drink the Grisette. It's amazing.

Dude, let it go. I'm asking you to stop hijacking this thread because you enjoyed Yard House and now you've got your panties all in a bind because the locals don't want to push a corporate chain.

I'm genuinely sorry if I offended, that really wasn't my intention. I was just hoping to make a suggestion to someo e who said he'd only be in town one night.

I have really benefited from all the suggestions on this thread and just wanted to contribute. Again, sorry.

Looks to me like @HectorB is just sharing his recent experience as an out-of-towner visiting beer spots in Seattle. Last time I checked, people outside the PNW are still allowed to post their opinions in a PNW thread. Not everyone has to agree with everything posted here, and I wouldn't consider that post "hijacking." Hell, he even qualified the statement by saying "if you are staying downtown and pressed for time".

I mean world class as in ratings on BA. If I am going to make a haul from across the country I typically like to get my hands on a few bottle of stuff rated over 90 to bring to my local bottle share and then fill the rest in with local recommendations regardless of rating.

    Thanks for the info guys!
