You can't go wrong with Sushi Kashiba down by Pike Place Market. It's not far at all --- a couple minutes walk from Cloudburst and Old Stove.

If you have a car, Reuben's and Stoup are not far from Holy Mountain. You can walk but it's along a busy thoroughfare and a bit of a hike. There're no nice lunch places by HM --- it's in an industrial park. But there are a ton of nice restaurants in the Ballard area where Reuben's and Stoup are located. Bastille is a favorite but there's lots of variety. If you're looking for more sushi, Sam's Sushi in Ballard is a really good, no frills kind of place.

While I wouldn't say it's "quick" by any measure, Windy City Pie is arguably some of the best pizza in the area. It's right next door to HM and we often grab a pie to go and bring it into HM.

I like Shiro's in Belltown. Recommend the omakase. Get their early.

If you willing to travel to West Seattle, Mashikos offers 'sustainable sushi' which is a pretty cool concept if you really think about how many frequent flyer miles a piece of bluefin tuna has qualified for.

Bonus if you go to Mashiko's: it's just a short walk from The Beer Junction.

Going to be in Seattle in a month and staying at the Residence Inn at Lake Union. Is Chucks on Union St the best shop to hit up or somewhere up north around Fremont? Also any of them not kid friendly?

Both Chucks are kid friendly (and sell ice cream for the kids) and keep their taplists updated online. Fremont is also kid friendly (free soda for the kids)

We'd love to see you over here in West Seattle! If you do check out Mashiko, which is excellent- it's highly highly recommended to make reservations. They are also only open 5PM to 9PM (Sunday to Thursday) and 5PM to 10PM (Friday & Saturday). You can call for reservations there at 206.935.4339.

That ice cream ain't just for the kids, my friend. I've been known to partake with a nice, little glass of bourbon-barrel-aged stout...:sunglasses:

To bring this full circle from my recommendation above, Chef Shiro Kashiba opened Shiro's in Belltown but sold his share in it to open Sushi Kashiba: http://sushikashiba.com/chef-shiro/.

I should start doing that. In the past, I'd end up tasting my daughter's cotton-candy flavored ice cream, and that ruins pretty much any beer. (I don't do that anymore.)

I'll be staying in West Seattle here in a couple of weeks. Any other beer and/or food spots I should check out? The Beer Junction is already on my list. :grinning:

I like Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya in Capitol Hill. I recommend going for lunch if you have the time -- they get very crowded in the evenings.

I'm still used to calling it Kukai. There's another one in North Seattle at Thornton Place.

    It's a chain from Tokyo/Chiba.

Does Reuben's have an updated taplist online anywhere. I see the website shows one but it was last updated on March 25th.

Not that I know of, but Reuben's taplist is consistently so good and so deep that you never need to check in advance when determining whether you should visit. Just go. You won't be disappointed. But if you really want to know what's on, try giving them a call first. They'll help you.

PS The website taplist was last updated May 25th, but I see your point.

We just started getting Reuben's stuff down here. What are the beers to look for from them? I've had the Crickey previously and liked it quite a bit, but so far have only been able to sample the imperial rye and BA imp stout here in PDX. Neither beer exactly knocked my socks off.

I assume I'm just not doing a good job of ordering their better stuff. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
