The Denny Party arrived at Alki in 1851 on the schooner "Exact". It's all about the early Seattle history!

We are visiting Seattle from Boston to see the Red Sox on the road from June 14-18.

Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions regarding the Washington Brewers Festival that is taking place that weekend? We are considering attending on Sunday. Is it true that you are allowed only 18 samples?

The first night we are staying in Lynnwood as we are taking a tour of the Boeing Factory. The other nights we are staying in Renton. We will have a rental car, and also plan to use Uber/public transportation. We will also be spending a lot of time around the ballpark, but does anyone have some great suggestions for the Renton & Lynnwood areas?

    Thanks!

Not sure where that number came from. On Saturday and Sunday you are only allowed to purchase 3 additional tokens, which is new this year:

    http://www.washingtonbeerblog.com/washington-brewers-festival-changes/

Since a ticket only provides 8 tokens, I count 11 max. If you join WABL, you get two additional tokens so 13 might be the maximum without bending the rules.

I apologize for the typo, so its true that you can only have 11 samples at the festival? That seems like an awfully small amount. Or is this like other festivals where the organizers are required to give out tickets, however the brewers dont actually collect the tickets?

    Renton - Brewmaster's Taproom
Lynnwood - Special Brews and Stogies and Hops

Neither area is known for breweries.

    Proud to be Old Seattle.

I wonder how many Seattle natives even know that. I posted earlier that I didn't understand the name and asked on my first visit to the brewery.

No, they will require your token before they pour your beer. Go Friday if possible since that day is still unlimited. New rule is pretty lame.

You really want to hit Machine House, and if you can get there during their limited hours, Foggy Noggin for your English fix. Now, ""Smoked Helles" is wee bit more specific. Chuckanut makes a killer Helles, but, I don't recall them ever making a smoked Helles. They mighta but, .....

Anyhow, hope ya have a fun visit, even if ya are a Red Sux fan.

    Nice!

In srs, I'll be traveling to SeaTac and driving straight to Mt Rainier by Ashford. I was planning to stock up on beer at the Total Wine in Puyallup along the way. Is this a good plan or do you have any better recommendations?

Seattle-area news for a brewery without a dedicated thread: Black Raven is opening a new production facility in Woodinville (along Redmond-Woodinville Rd, north of Sumerian). Old taproom isn't going anywhere, but the new location will also have a taproom. Old location is going to start brewing more specialty beers and taproom exclusives.

If you're planning on driving through Puyallup, then you'll go right by Tacoma. At least for my money, I would recommend going to Pint Defiance rather than TW. It's about a 5 minute drive to PD from the Interstate, so it's pretty convenient as well. I find that PD generally has a much more interesting and eclectic selection than what you'll find at TW.

As someone who goes up to Woodinville far more than they like (this weekend and next weekend for example), this is great news.

Any word on when the new facility will be opening?

SeaTac to Puyallup does not include Tacoma, but it’s probably your best bet for bottles.

Rainier growlers on South Hill does crowlers and has a limited curates bottle selection.

It doesn't? I could swear that the Puyallup exits on I-5 were just a couple exits south of Tacoma. When I look at a map, it appears to be adjacent to Tacoma (a bit south and East).

I realize you can bypass/avoid Tacoma if you choose (when driving down to Puyallup), but I think it's worthwhile not to do that in order to visit PD (as opposed to TW).

They had the information posted during the Flock Party a couple weeks ago and I can't remember the details. Haven't seen the information anywhere else.

If you jump over to 167 from SeaTac and head south, then, yeah, Tacoma isn’t on the way. If taking I-5, Tacoma IS on the way. 167 is probably a little faster, but a few extra minutes is worth the better beer selection in Tacoma.

Depending upon the time of day, taking the route down I-5 through Tacoma could be more than a few extra minutes, e.g., the Friday afternoon/evening commute is brutal especially if you don't use the HOV lanes.
