There's also a Tacoma Boys in Puyallup less than a mile from TW.

And then the HOV lanes go away completely once you hit Pierce County. Cause that's logical.

    Ain't that the truth.

But is there really any way to avoid that mess? The last time I drove south on Hiway 167, it wasn't exactly a walk in the park either. I guess you can take I-5 down to Federal Way and cut over to 167 at that point, but in my experience, if you're driving south from SeaTac on a Friday afternoon, you're probably going to hit bad traffic no matter what route you take.

Would you consider the selection there to be better? How's freshness? I assume TW does not have cold storage while TB does...

Keep in mind I won't be looking for anything arcane, just want some fresh IPA, pils or saison sixers to have after hikes.

Total Wine is notorious for old, warm beer on the shelf. Although, I've never seen their Ft. George selection anywhere other than in the cooler. Must be a requirement from the brewery.

While TW may have more overall selection, as mentioned most of it is old and room temp. They do have a cooler with some stuff in it (also as mentioned by distantmantra). TB's has 8-10 racks of glass-front cooler plus walk-in cooler space behind it, and arguably a better selection of interesting stuff.

Good point. If one must head south from SeaTac on a Friday afternoon, it's best to just park yourself at one of our fine establishments, grab some grub and beer, and wait it out (if time allows, of course).

Sounds like TB is what I'll do. The Total Wine here in Houston is similar; it's great for wine but the beer section is all warm storage and old stock.

    Thanks again for the tip!

Hello all! Going to be hitting Seattle for a couple days the weekend of June 23rd-24th before heading up to Olympic then down the coast. Unfortunately due to my procrastination the only decent & affordable Airbnb I could find was way out of town down in Kent. Is there anything in that area worth checking out beer-wise? We will have a rental car and will be going into the city all day Sunday for the art museum and may try to hit a place or 2 mentioned earlier on this thread. Thanks in advance!

Airways Brewing is in Kent and make good beer. CRFT Beers is a bottle shop/taproom not very far away in Auburn and Brewmaster's Taproom isn't too far away in Renton.

    That's about it.

My one visit to Dog and Pony Alehouse in Renton about a year ago was a very positive one. The taplist and service were fantastic.

If you Seattle folks were around the Pike & Melrose area and wanted to watch a sporting event, say the NBA finals, at a spot with good TV viewing and a good selection of local IPAs (hazy and clear), where would you go?

Redhook Brewlab? The Pine Box has a big screen with a projector that sometimes shows sports. Chucks CD has had sports on when I was there before.

Just saw on Facebook a little while ago that the Pine Box is showing the Mariners vs. Astros game on their TV.

About a mile away is the Canterbury Ale House --- they have abundant TVs with sports on them usually and a fairly decent taplist. Could also be filled with kids and families. It's a crapshoot.

Still can't believe Seattle lost a team to freaking OKC...but, I digress. This is about beer.

Thanks for the input guys! Pine Box was my fall back even though I was just there last night, but I'll probably just roll with Chuck's if Pine Box is advertising the fact they are showing the Mariners

The Redhook Brewlab isn’t what you probably think it is. Majority of the beers are brewed onsite and different from the grocery store shelf Red Hook stuff. Plus lots of collabs with WA breweries (looks to be a hazy collab with Matchless right now).

If you go just south of downtown, Collins Pub has a couple TVs, and would probably show both. Flatstick is just a couple blocks farther, and has tons of TVs.
