For up to the minute beer happenings in Seattle, check the Washington Beer Blog. That guy has a good events calendar.

Also, for those visiting the south end, Tacoma, there are some very good beer offerings.

    Breweries/tasting rooms:

    Wingman
    Puyallup river Ale House (Puyallup)
    Tacoma Brewing
    Pacific Brewing
    Harmon Brewing
    Odd Otter (opening soon)
    7 Seas (Gig Harbor)
    Lake Tapps Brewing (sumner)
Northwest Brewing (formerly Trade Route, Sumner)
The Ram (a chain, I don't go, but they do brew)
    Narrows Brewing
    Engine House #9 (E9)

    Excellent Beer Pubs:

    Parkway Tavern (my personal favorite)
    Red Hot
    E9
    The Spar
Pint Defiance (bottleshop with tap offerings)
    Meconi's
    Doyle's
    Harmon
    Tides Tavern (Gig Harbor)
    ......really a number of them......

I'm sure I left out some good breweries and tap houses, sorry...please feel free to add !

SlothB77 - good recommendations, don't forget to include Der Blokken in Bremerton, good German styles and food, and in Poulsbo along with Sound Brewing (very high quality stuff, trippels, dubbels and quads among them) there's also Slippery Pig. Rainy Daze is delicious too, near Silverdale. Small operation but yummy and growing.

I'm going to be in Seattle for a couple days and it looks like 99 bottles it the place to go to grab some bottles. Can any one give me recommendation on some good sours to grab, or any other local specialties?

Unless you'll be in Federal Way (about 20 minutes south of Seattle) you'll probably be better off heading to one of the other shops in the city: Beer Junction, Chuck's, Bottleworks or even QFC U Village (grocery store) or Whole Foods will have a very good selection (among other places). I'll leave recommendations to others but you can easily find Almanac and Cascade (sours that immediately come to mind) at most locations.

And to further demonstrate my insanity (along with my rants in the two InBev/A-B-related threads), I'm also boycotting QFC (and Fred Meyer) until their parent company, Kroger, changes their open-carry gun policies within their stores. I have no intention of shopping next to a nut job carrying an AR-15.

Hey all fellow BA'ers. I am in the Minneapolis area (MN and WI distro) and have a colleague in Seattle on a work trip next week. I am tasked with providing a list of beers to bring back to the midwest. I don't want to make her go too crazy searching for hard to find beers, but would like to get some good local stuff available now. Any suggestions on things I should have her grab? After reading this (and other) threads I will suggest going to 99 bottles as that seems to be the place to go. Anyway, thanks in advance!

I'm curious --- what about this thread made you think 99 Bottles seems like the place to go over the other bottle shops listed? There's no one commenting in this entire thread who promotes 99 Bottles as the superior place. Is it because I listed 99 Bottles first in the OP? If that's the case, I listed all of the bottle shops in alphabetical order and numbers come before letters when listing in alpha order. The list was not intended as a ranking.

With that said, 99 Bottles is indeed a great place. However, please know that 99 Bottles is in Federal Way, which (as previously mentioned) is about 20 minutes south of Seattle along I-5.

My Bad... I'll admit I was just skimming the thread and thought I saw that mentioned a couple times.... thanks for the clarification (also didn't notice the list was in alpha order).

The Beer Junction is by far the best bottle shop if you really want to know.

No apology necessary. I just didn't want your colleague to return to MN and kick your ass for sending her on a 45-minute round trip by car just to buy you some beer.

So thank you for that, lol... back to the question at hand. Looking for D/IPAs, and/or BA stuff that may be around and somewhat easy to locate. We get most of the bigger breweries here (Deschutes, Pyramid, Redhook, etc..), just not super familiar with smaller breweries out there. Any help you can provide would be great.

Fremont BBomb and KDS. Both are available.

Beer Junction still had all flavors of KDS as of yesterday.

Has Fremont released any new cans of the Brother or Sister? I haven't been buying much for IPA's lately so haven't been paying attention. They're both excellent IIPA's.

KDS (and varients) sound awesome... Haven't had any Fremont, they are sure getting a lot of love on this site though as I look at the ratings. Will definitely have targets set on them. How about HopWorks and Reubensbrews - I see their ratings are pretty decent, but know very little about them.

Reuben's Imperial IPA is really good like pretty much all their beer. Hopworks is nothing special. Ace of Spades is pretty good though.

Reubens and Fremont are (IMHO) the best two brewries in Seattle. Reuben's doesn't have any limted stuff out right now but their regular line up is outstanding. Each Brewery should be well represented by most local bottle shops.
