First, deep dish isn't a tourist-only thing... If you weren't ordering it, shame on you.

Second, Chicago has a pretty devoted "soccer" following, so shame on you again.

Third, who the hell is going to give us our PW updates when you're gone?!?

Come on now... how many times did you order deep dish when you didn't have people visiting from out of town?

Oh please. Football is so much better in the Midwest and southeast, what a joke. How'd WI do in the Rose Bowl? Bears vs Seahawks? Buckeyes vs NCAA? Do I need to continue? How will UW handle Illinois in Soldier Field? It's 2013, people need to realize that kids from all across the country go to schools all across the country. The only bias is creative by fans and ESPN? Who's favored to win the Super Bowl this year?

Honestly, over half the time. But I'm more worried about the third part. Chicago needs your updates.

Unfortunately for this argument, the SEC has won every single BCS championship game that ever existed :slight_frown: I don't think you'll find too many Illinois football fans - certainly not in Chicago, and probably not in Champaign

To the Chicago contingency moving in, Welcome from another fellow Great Lakes transplant

I fully understand your concern and I want to take the time to acknowledge that the PW updates will continue despite my being so far away. Also, OTA is delicious, FWIW.

It's time again for me to visit. Hopefully good things are going on next week!
I've noticed that Populuxe's tap list is much more extensive than when I was there in April.

Great threadl, really appreciate all the advice. I'm headed into town next week with the family, which means it's not a beer trip, but hopefully a family trip with plenty of great beer. To that end, can y'all recommend, say, one nice dinner spot and one great lunch place around downtown? I'm assuming most quality restaurants in town have good beer, but obviously a great beer list is a priority for me. This way I can tell the family we're going for a great meal, and I can make sure to get my beer fill. Thanks a lot.

One place that I like to take out-of-town guests is the Palisade. Beautiful view. Classy. A little pricey but their first seating menu helps keep the cost in check if that's a factor. Beer list is no great shakes though but they will have a few decent beers to choose from: http://www.palisaderestaurant.com/
I highly encourage making a reservation if you decide to go there.
    Hope you enjoy your visit.

The best restaurant in Seattle IMHO is Canlis and they've recently started to stock exceptional beer, mostly Belgians. If price is no object, then that's your best bet for world-class food and a great beer list.

As for lunch, I would try any of Tom Douglas' restaurants. Brave Horse Tavern has the best beer list but all of his restaurants will have at least of couple of selections of good beer. Last time I was at Serious Pie (pizza joint), I had a Lagunitas and a Green Flash.

I'll throw in a plug for the Metropolitan Grill or the Brooklyn downtown, or Daniel's Broiler on Lake Union or Leschi. I get the latter two confused, but I think they're all pretty solid service-oriented steak/seafood type places where you can expect an excellent dining experience (and pay accordingly). They aren't quite Canlis, but the last, and only, time I've been to Canlis it was a little fancy-schmancy (jacket required etc.). Without a doubt an outstanding restaurant, but maybe not everyone's cup of tea. Palisade is good, it's one of my wife's favorite spots so we often take guests there. Palace Kitchen or Dahlia Lounge (or perhaps any member of Tom Douglas' expanding empire) won't disappoint. Ballard seems to be a real hot spot for good new restaurants lately.

I'm not sure about the beer lists at any of these places. I remember being a little disappointed at one of these restaurants thinking they should have a better selection. IIRC Palisade has the standard "local" choices of Manny's and Mac and Jack, but nothing all that notable.

There really are too many good restaurants to choose from in Seattle, from French to Caribbean to Argentinian to seafood to Creole to sushi to Mexican to Thai to Brazilian to pizza. It all depends on what you're looking for. Do a search for "best restaurant in Seattle" and you'll have a dizzying array of spots to choose from.

Or, go to Uber for beer, then a stroll down the street to Beth's for a 12 egg omelet.

I've never had a bad meal at Joule in either location, but their new space on Stone Way next to Whale Wins is fantastic. The spicy rice cakes are amazing.

My favorite lunch in Seattle is:

    1. Get a roast pork sandwich at Paseo.
    2. Take it to Fremont Brewing and have a beer while eating the sandwich.

I'm wondering if it's time to bump this up and make some new additions. To be honest, I didn't re-read the entire thing so don't know if places like Populuxe and Peddler have been added.

Or maybe start a new one that's not 3 pages long? Kinda condense things a bit and add the new stuff.

Increasingly inconsistent BA forum policy applied throughout the regions defaults to the rule of not wanting things condensed into one 'all-encompassing' thread, despite how much better it would be to have these threads in place to clean up the number of duplicate discussions with regard to 'I am visiting X city in your region, where should I go?' or 'What is on tap or available at X brewery?' The reasoning behind this is that one thread that stretches multiple pages apparently makes things more difficult to search for a person looking for the information. Always thought that was what the 'Search' box was for in the top right side of each page on BA, but I guess that's just me.

Maybe if we did a new thread 3-4 times a year. The usual suspects don't change very often (I've recommended Big Time so much over the years, every time I see the phrase "visiting Seattle" my fingers just start moving), and new additions and closures could be added in. If we all resisted the urge to add haikus, we could probably keep it at 1 page, for easy perusal. Thoughts from the hive?

Is this the most up to date "Visiting Seattle" thread out there? Planning a trip with the wife soon but didn't want to create yet another thread - either way, thanks for all the help I found in this one. Any significant updates since the last post in this thread?...
