I will be in South Bend (coming from CT) Tuesday through Thursday. Just looking for recommendations for good places to grab a few pints and food. The trip is for business, so I will only be exploring after 5:30 or so. From looking at the places section of the site, it seems like Fiddler's Hearth and South Bend Brewing are good stops. Anything else?
fiddlers is worth a stop but, not to be hater, i wouldnt bother with sb brew werks. solid atmosphere but the beers are pretty meh. others of note including drive times - im assuming youre staying in the city Breweries Crooked Ewe - 10 minutes Bare Hands - 20 minutes Transient - 40 minutes Bars Fiddlers Hearth - 5 minutes Lasalle Kitchen & Tavern - 5 minutes The Brick - 10 minutes Bleachers - 15 minutes The Galley at Tradewinds - 15 minutes Food Cafe Navarre - 5 minutes Corndance Tavern - 15 minutes Tempur Grille - 15 minutes If i had to recommend one spot for drinks it would be The Galley and for food i would recommend Corndance. All my food recommendations have solid craft beer selections (Corndance is affiliated with a local brewery) and all my bar recommendations serve food, i think. anyway, do a little more research but this should get you started. Cheers
I have not visited the places that are recommended above for comparison but I will add that if you can drive just to the adjacent city of Mishawaka, it will be well worth your time to go to Evil Czech Brewery and Public House. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/36597/ I stopped there recently at the end of a 26-day pub crawl and felt that this was in the top three of the places that I visited during that trip. Great beer and food!
