I have a coworker travelling to Sydney area from the US and he has offered to grab a bottle of something good for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated as far as a good bottle...or even a premier shop I can direct him too. Would love some Cantillon, but assume it is as hard to get there as over here. Focus is probably on unique stouts or sours (concerned with freshness of hoppy things)...generally not interested in anything English influenced (stouts, pales, barleywines, stock ales).

    Will watch the thread..thanks again.

    I would recommend

    Boatrocker Ramjet (BA RIS)

    Hargreaves Hill RIS

Hargreaves Hill Phoenix (Hoppy Strong Amber/American Strong Ale)

Murray's Wild Thing (RIS) might be worth a shot too, the 2014 Vintage was good

Bottled Australian sours are few and far between, you might find some NZ ones though

I wouldn't bother trying to find Cantillon, it goes quickly here now and the places that actually have it on shelves now are probably charging more for it than it would cost for you to simply order it straight from Belgium

Nail Clout Stout (RIS) is probs one of our best imho, but the price is over the top (AUD$70).

Two Metre Tall in Tassie do some sours / wild ales, but not sure on availability in Sydney

Moon Dog also do a Passionfruit & Mango Wild Ale called Mr Mistoffelees (had one last night, not bad)

Thanks to all. Found out my friend is actually staying in Parramatta....any good stores out that way or people with 'loons or 3F who want some American goodies?

Surely you would want to try something local, not just a sour
try a clout stout, pricey but maybe you can trade it for whalez from a truck chaser back home

Howdy! My brother is going to Sydney with work for two week and wanted to see what there was to do there beer wise He also offered to use a carry on for any beer I wanted him to take there and maybe bring some stuff back for me.

So does anyone down under want to trade for some good American stouts/sours or other beer? I'd love to hear from you!

The 3 stores in Sydney where you're gonna find all the top beers locally, and from around the world are - the beer cartel, the oak barrell, and Barneys. A hidden underrated gem if you like IPAs is Murrays - Fred. To me, it's better than a lot of the top rated IPAs.

Local to Nowra, NSW (just south of Sydney) is HopDog Brewing. If you can find any of their Alluvial Peach or Holy Snappin' Turtles, they both are fantastic sours!

It is absolutely outstanding. One of my favourite Australian beers of all time.
