Exactly, a healthy debate is like a good tennis match. This site would be boring if we all agreed on everything. We would be left with haikus and the trolling of a certain cat on the ones and twos.

Nice job getting this thread back on track (shouldn't have to debate the merits of debate)!

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I take exception to you suggesting that I have made any false statements during this discussion. I understand that passions can sometimes run a bit high, but that's over the top.

As I have said over and over again, I have been very careful to make it clear that my opinions are based on my impressions, and are not factual statements (I mean, how could they be? I don't know the facts.). I also like to think I've been very careful to refrain from any name calling or personal insults.

Buy hey, whatever. You do you.

@NedStarkravingmad I can't believe nobody if taking you up on your offer. I wish I could be there! Have them hold it for me behind the bar and I'll gladly pick it up next Sunday. I'll leave one for you at a brewery of your choice in CT!!!

Give a shout when you're in Portland, I know your itinerary is packed but I'd like to meet the man with such ambition and buy him a beer

I bet you could do that. Prepay a beer, and leave a note with @psweendogg 's real name on it.

You guys are awesome. I intend to continue posting once we arrive in the area next Sunday! We would love to catch up with any of the amazing NW Forumers while we're there.

So, how amazing is the Nectarine Premiere?

Like everyone, I'm eager to move on. But there is one thing that continues to bother me about all this, John, and which I believe has yet to be fully addressed. I mean this to be my last word on the matter, so I hope my dredging everything up a final time just as the dust seemed to be settling can be forgiven...

From the beginning, you've made it clear you didn't have all the facts -- and yet for someone who knowingly did not possess them, you've stated your opinions rather strongly. Stridently, even. You came out throwing roundhouses, and then only, upon reflection and feedback from numerous sources (including the one person who did have all the facts), started to slowly let up, though, strangely, without ever really backing down. To find the most egregious examples, you may refer yourself once more to the extensive list which Trevor cataloged. There's a veritable surplus of overly harsh and forceful statements there. And, although you claim to have taken pains to avoid any personal insults -- and I take you at your word -- if you objectively look at what you wrote you will see that you could, perhaps, have tried harder. Someone did get hurt in all this, and that is regrettable, especially because it was someone we all agree is good. It was also avoidable...

Yes, this is an opinion-driven site, and that is as it should be, if it's to remain a dynamic, interesting, and useful place for us to spend our time yapping about beer (and, let's face it, a thousand other tangents:slight_smile:). But the strength of our opinions, here or anywhere else, should be proportionate to the amount of true and factual information we have to back them up. Otherwise it's just visceral feelings, instinctive responses, and "truthiness." And that's where we can get ourselves into trouble, as we've observed time and again in every possible context, much more or much less serious than this one. Let's be mindful of that. Really. And always.

    Cheers.

I feel I've adequately explained the reasons for why I reacted the way I did, and at this point, I absolutely do not want to rehash them. Next time we get together for a beer, I'll run through the entire scenario with you, explain how I came to the conclusions I did, and why it caused me to react the way I did. You can decide for yourself whether there's any justification for my reaction.

I will admit that I am pretty cynical and suspicious by nature (to some extent, this is just a natural by product of my "real" job), and that's likely colored my reaction to some extent. That being said, some of the responses I read from dG, when he/they initially explained the cost breakdown for the new club, are the sort of thing I often see from folks who have something to hide, or who at least aren't telling you the full story in their responses. I have NEVER gotten that feeling or impression from anything I've read from Trevor in the past, which perhaps was part of the reason I reacted so strongly. Again, that doesn't mean I'm right, and frankly, at this point I don't feel it makes any difference (who cares how Trevor came up with the pricing for the new club; it's none of my business, and high, low or whatever, it certainly hasn't affected what sounds like an avalanche of club membership applications)

In any event, at least from my standpoint, this has been an extremely interesting and educational experience. I've been contemplating posting something in the beer talk section about it (after the dust settles I think), as I'd be very curious to hear what others have to say about this. When I do (if I do), I'll shoot you a BM, as I want to be very careful to accurately depict what took place, and I'm concerned that I might too strongly interject my point of view. If I say something that you feel isn't wholly accurate or objective, I hope you'll jump in and provide additional insight and balance.

    Cheers!

The wife and I have had house guests over for the past few days, and today is the first time in a while that I'll have the opportunity to head out for a beer. At this point, I feel like I could use one! :-)

This is one of the reasons I opted not to try for a membership - I'd be dropping WAY too much money on every release, something the physical distance currently keeps in check.

I generally am not a big fan of sours and even I thought it was amazing. The fresh, bright, in your face fruit aroma and flavor has to be experienced to be believed. If you have a chance to try any of the fruited wild ales/farmhouse ales dG makes while you're out here, don't miss the opportunity.

@John_M Believe me, I can't wait to try as many as possible! I've been anxiously watching the chalkboard on their Facebook posts... hoping and praying that Nectarine Premiere stays on the board until next weekend.

@deGardebrewing Your chalkboard pics show "On Premise Bottle List Also Available". Is there a way for me to view that list online or can someone post a screen shot? My wife and I would love to take a look at the list before arriving. Can't wait to see you next Sunday.

The on-site list often varies day-to-day, so you'll need to view it in real-time when you're there. (Occasionally visitors that use the Untappd app will post pics of the day's on-site list w/ their checkins. Might try looking at past checkins at the brewery for an example.)

Regardless, I highly doubt you'll be disappointed at all; every time I've been, there's been a diverse range of great bottles available.

the ability to order dG bottles on line before they drop to public and go pick it up within a 3 month window alone is worth $260 to me. Hoping I get in. emailed about an hour after it went live and I heard it was first come- first serve.

"We will begin emailing new members no later than Friday the 21st of July."

That pretty clearly indicates to me that emails could've started going out any time after the signup window concluded, and that by end-of-day Friday all emails will have already been sent.
