    hi!

i'll be going out and visiting family in Troy, MI and wanted to know if you guys can give me any suggestions about good bottle shops in the area? i'll be coming from san diego and wanted to pick up a few bottles of something that i can't get on the west coast.

also, does three floyds distribute to MI?

thanks in advance for all your help!

No three floyds in Michigan. You have two great bottle shops close to Troy. Closest will most likely be Holiday Market in Royal Oak, MI on Main Street just north of I-696 and Champanes on 13 mile rd between Mound and Van **** on the north side of the road. Between these two I don't think you will find better prices or availability in the area.

Do you guys have any suggestions for good beers that are only distributed locally?

Hopefully someone else can chime in and help on this one. For sure anything by Short's Brewery would be a great score as they do not distribute outside of MI. As for the others not sure what we have these days that may not be available to you in CA.

Anything bottled by Odd Sides is GREAT! Their Citra Pale Ale is VERY close to FFF Zombie Dust if you can find some bottles somewhat fresh. Even if they are not fresh, it's still a wonderful beer. Look for some Short's Brewing offerings as well. Just look at the descriptions that might fit your liking. Am I wrong that Founders is not distributed to Cali? I thought they weren't and if that's the case...BREAKFAST STOUT! Many of our shops have gotten Oscar Blues Ten Fidy in, but I'm not sure about that availability to you. There is also Bell's that I'm not sure about for Cali. Hope that helps!
One more suggestion... There is another thread in the Great Lakes forum that would be a GREAT help! You might want to read through the thread and takes notes of some things to look for. You can find it here: What is your favorite Michigan beer?

I would strongly suggest if you head to Champanes that head over Kuhnhenn's. It is about a mile away. They might not have a lot bottled however their beer is well worth the stop. Try the DRIPA and Créme Brule Java stout. Both are fantastic.

Another good shop in Royal Oak is Cloverleaf Fine wine. Don't let their name deceive you they have a great beer selection. And it too is right down the street from Holiday.

I would have brought some cali beers with me if I knew beer geeks out here!

We get some Founders in SD, but not much. I'll definitely look for some breakfast stout!

I'll be going to dragonmead later today. What's a good beer there?

Try a flight and decide for yourself. I myself think their Wee Heavy Under the Kilt scotch ale is great and Final Absolution is a great Tripel. Of course the Oompah Loompah Chocolate stout is pretty good as well.

Final Absolution is by far my favorite beer they offer. It is a very well done Tripel.

As for beers that you should be on the look out for:
    1. Shorts - They just released a new release called Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster - Double Belgian IPA, absolutely fantastic.
    2. OddSide. All of their beer is wonderful. I haven't had one I disliked yet. They just released their Black Citra Pale Ale, and it is my favorite Black PA i've had yet.
    3. I dont know if you get Bells out in San Diego, but Bells is releasing some quality beer right now too - Cherry Stout, Java Stout, Expedition Stout, and Third Cost Old Ale are all starting to be for sale.

Food wise, If you are looking for some good places for beer and food, Go to One Eyed Betty's in Ferndale and Vinsetta's Garage (Faygo Ice Cream is absolutely amazing) in Royal Oak.
