I'll be in Waco for a couple days coming up soon and am looking to pick up some great Texas-only beers to bring back home to StL. Since I'll be in Waco, I'm looking for some of the best readily-available beers...any suggestions?
There is a grocery store chain called HEB in Waco, Texas. Should have decent luck finding Bourbon Barrel Hellfighter and Chocolate Bourbon Barrel Hellfighter, plus lots of bottles and cans of local stuff. Community beers, hops and Grain, Austin beer works, karbach, maybe some of the shelf Jester King. For the most part you will have better luck in Dallas or Austin if you happen to be flying into one of those places.
Dancing Bear Pub has some bottles and cans to go (may have some Austin Beerworks, one of the few places outside Austin). Also great if looking for a bar while you're there.
This will be your best bet. http://specsonline.com/cgi-bin/showmap?store=73& Also whatever Barnett's is/was/or reopening as. It's right across from the Hilton downtown. And you would be wise to go to George's and get their dish of chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with jalapenos and cheese and deep fried in bite sized balls.
Do you live in Waco? I've not seen anything here that you mentioned besides Karbach regulars and Austin Beerworks by the can at the Dancing Bear. Don't get me wrong, not trying to call you out! I'd just love to know where you saw what you listed!
I live in Austin. When we were there in December, I was able to buy BBH and HG Zoe. I thought I also saw community mosaic and Petite Prince on the shelf. It was the Heb+ right on 35. Just figured the others may be there because I knew they were in Temple and figured it was same distribution.
Also, if you're driving, make sure to give yourself 17 hours to drive the stretch between Dallas and Waco. Home to the highest concentration of shitty drivers in the Republic.
