A group of buddies and I are leaving for Indiana later this week. Renting an RV and staying at Potato Creek Park and hitting the South Bend for the ND-Navy game on Saturday. Wondering if anybody could help me out with any good must visits in that general area, even if it's just a decent store. Will also be driving through northern Ohio and hoping to stop at Great Lakes for lunch or dinner. Checked some forums and mapped some things, but would appreciate any info from anybody local. Probably can't drive too far out of the way, the RV only gets something like 12 miles per gallon. Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this.

Overshoot South Bend by about 30-40 minutes and you'll be at Three Floyds. Well worth the time to go, but be advised they are typically jammed on weekends.

After you're done at GLBC, continue your journey westward to Fat Heads in North Olmsted and Lizardville in Rocky River. Both of these locations have enough room to park an RV and Fat Head's affords you the ability for growler fills while Lizardville does growlers and have ton's of single bottles. And, they are 5-10 minutes apart and not a journey off of I-90.

Fat Heads or Brew Kettle which are all in Northeast Ohio are within reasonable distance. It wouldn't hurt to stop in for a bit. Lizardville in Rocky River or Bedford Heights would be the shop to go to in that area.

Rather than continue with the normal recommendations, I would suggest Maumee Bay Brewing Company in Toledo. It's only 10 minutes from the turnpike. If they have bottles of Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout and Amarillo Brillo IIPA, I would definitely stop in. Cool pub too. I hope you have fun, cheers!

If you are coming across 80/90, I would hit Dark Horse in Marshall, MI (abt 20 min north of IN) and Arcadia (abt 10 min northwest of Dark Horse). Both are fantastic breweries.

There's a few good shops in Toledo and the Attic in downtown Toledo has Zombie Dust, Gumball Head, and a few other great selections on draft.

I will second Maumee Bay and the Attic in Toledo. The Andersons in Maumee is not too far off the turnpike and is a great bottle shop. In South Bend check out Four Horsemen.

If you could only stop at one place in NE Ohio, I'd definitely make it Fat Heads..

There's a nice brewery in Elkhart, just east of South Bend, right off of 80/90, called Iechyd Da Brewing. I'm surprised it doesn't get mentioned around here much, but their beer is pretty good, food too.

It is about 40 miles from the Toll Road, exit 36 on I-69 IIRC. Not 20 minutes, especially in an RV. If he takes I-94 across MI, then it is real close, but would Toll savings for an RV offset gas and time?

Yeah you gotta stop at Iechyd Da in Elkhart. Beer is great and the food is awesome as well. Great atmosphere. Also, Granger has Bare Hands Brewery. This is on your way from Elkhart to South Bend. I always recommend Fiddlers Hearth downtown South Bend for a solid draft lineup. enjoy!

Ok, maybe a half hour. You're from MI, so you know every mf'er in that state does at least 80 on the highway. Even if he does 65, it's a little over a half hour. Depending on his routing, which is why I specified "IF YOU ARE...", he should stop at said place.

If you read the OP's initial post, he said he is coming across northern OH and going to the Notre Dame game so he may be going either way. Regardless, OP is from MA, so if he is coming in from out of state on a leisurely trip and asking for good places to stop at.

Dark Horse is a great brewery with a cool store, so it would be like a 2 for 1. If you are coming in during the week for a Saturday game, you might have a few hours to take out of your trip for a quality stop.

I just found out yesterday that tailgating is prohibited at Notre Dame and there are no alcohol sales in the stadium.

On my last road trip I enjoyed going to Willoughby which is before you get to Cleveland if you are taking the NY Thruway to get there.

people tailgate all the time at ND.....If they have "no tailgating" signs and stuff I'm sure it's loosely enforced. I don't think they can come out and say "please come get drunk in our parking lot".

The problem with Marinos is that you have to be careful with IPAs and IIPAs, I bought a four pack of Maumee Bay's Amarillo Brillo and it was a malt bomb. I drank one and used the other three to cook with.

How could this be interpreted such that tailgating is prohibited?

It was my understanding that tailgating occurs outside the stadium.
