I must have completely blacked out at some point in the past few months, because I was completely unaware of this delicious sounding brew until today. What were the details on this one? Have any of them traded recently, and what for?

There were 258 bottles, break out the big guns if you want some.

I thought about creating a thread about this since I've done four trades for this beer, but I thought it might discourage other people from trying for it. Anyway, I've done the following to land it:

    (1) The K13 for BA Abraxas + Cherry Rye,
    (2) The K13 for Cali Brandy Huna + King Henry,
    (3) The K13 for Flora and Satsuma Flora. This trade was expanded and the other trader got a Damon too, and
    (4) The K13 for Rare.

The BA Abraxas + Cherry Rye got done quickly so I don't think you'd have to offer quite that much to get one. I got a couple nibbles offering Flora Satsuma x 2, but I never closed that one.

    Hope this helps

I wish I could do that. Don't think that'd get done the other direction. Would love another K13 that stuff is delicious.

This is more along the lines of what I'd think.

Not everyone is out to win. You might be surprised what some people would trade for it. Although there are less floating around than when I set up my trade.

Dam just noticed OPs name, traded with you a couple of times before wish I could have hooked you up. I actually know a few guys with it. BM me and I might be able to help (can't control what they want though).

appreciate the gesture, man. not sure I have quite the ammo to dish out for this one, and would probably have to trade quantity. my biggest question though, how does it actually taste? because i'd certainly be drinking it should I try to get one.

It's really good, in short. That and King Henry are my favorite barleywines by a fair margin.

Ive got a bottle of Rare coming to me and im contemplating trading it for a K13. I was originally lookng for a K13 but i didnt want to refuse the Rare. Its hard to find quality BA Barleywines but on the other hand Rare is one of those ones you dont want to let go.. Decisions decisions

Rare's worth a tick, but I think it's fallen off a cliff. Either that or it was never that amazing. Didn't seem significantly better than regular BCBS, especially 2011 when we did a vertical along with all variants. BCBVS is where it's at though. I'd take the K13 over all the BCBS years or variants except it's barely over vanilla for me. Just one opinion, but I'd rather have more K13 than Rare all day every day.

Funny. I had a vanilla recently after not having it for a while and I thought it was meh at best. But 2 weeks ago we drank a properly cellared Rare. I know it was properly cellared because we got it from a GI rep from one of the events. Anyways. Rare was awesome. I think cellaring conditions at this point are what makes the 3 year old stout. Some of the bottles of Rare have been shipped around the country like 10x before being opened. Half of those could of been in the summer heat. Who knows. But cellaring conditions mean a lot when it comes to stout.

Agreed. We did an all variant tasting over the summer and Vanilla was just disappointing at best. Personally I didn't think Rare was as good as it was 2 years ago. And the bottle of Rare we had was cellared properly since it's purchase.

OP, you have the cellar to get this done. Whether or not you want to trade those caliber brews is the question. It's a great beer, albeit a tad hot. Full disclosure, I have 2 K13's, and I personally wouldn't go 1:1 for Rare. It's also worth noting the chances of this beer being made again in the near future are very, very slim.

thanks, man. you hit it right on the head, not sure I want to give up some of the things that could get a K13 for a K13. I have a "properly cellared" bottle of Rare as well, but just not ready to give it up. I may just chalk this one up one of those beers I won't get to tick. Kinda like PVW Black Magick, haha.
