the real surprise is when they find a few whole barrels they forgot to empty! But, you know, those brews are quite the luxury. There's gonna be a biiiiit more of a premium on them...

I don’t see what the issue is if they want to hold bottles back that’s there decision to make.... a lot of breweries do so they can sell them.... and nobody is making anyone buy these bottles at these prices.... if no one were buying them I am sure they would come down in price it’s simple supply and demand.... don’t want to pay that much for it.... don’t buy it

I think some breweries also hold back bottles for more reasons than just to sell at inflated prices as well. I know a lot of times Voodoo pours these stouts at festivals that they're at. I'm sure they also like to age some of the bottles themselves to track how a beer ages over time for their own knowledge. To make a small quantity available to the public when it's possible doesn't bother me at all. It's not as if they selling large amounts of these bottles on any given day. They often quickly sell out of the offerings for the day.

I'm confused. You want them to serve beers they
Right? Voodoos not forcing anyone to buy them. I find it hilarious that people are mad at them for this.

I mean, yeah, I'd like to go to toppling goliath and be able to purchase a kbbs for onsite consumption for $20 but is that practical? Would I ever even get the chance to? No it would be sold out 5 minutes from now.

I get what you're saying but can we please stop equating BRC to KBBS tho? I mean, you're talking about one of the highest rated beers, of all time, in the world, to Voodoo. I know some people really love Voodoo (or, more accurately, love to trade Voodoo), but there's a big enough cohort of people that don't buy the hype, based on personal experience, that it's just not even anywhere near the same zip code, let alone ballpark.

And Iowa is a helluva lot harder to get to and much less populated than greater Pittsburgh, not to mention there isn't a consistent, ever rolling release schedule of BA beer out of TG. Almost all of their stout releases are ticketed, even non-ba stout.

I think Voodoo reveals their cards with how they do these releases, and then shoots themselves in the foot with how many of them are subpar. I've had more BRC bottles that tasted of aged cheese and stale wood than solid, stellar ba stout. Not to mention, if their release method was for the locals, they'd put more in kegs, not bottles. Announcing a very limited drop all over social media is not for the locals, it's for the hype, and the ability to announce an instant sell out to the world. The buyers are mostly people that can leave work on a weekday (or don't have a job) and jump in the car to drive immediately to pick up a bottle of beer or two upon announcement, largely so that they can flip it. Your typical "local bar patrons" are not the type of people that participate in that kind of behavior.

I'd love to be able to drive there knowing I could get some stout on draft, but they don't believe in stout. They believe in "stout season," which is amateur hour. Not only do they almost never have stout on draft (in favor of way too many extremely shitty Belgian "style" beers), but when they do have stout on draft, it's probably a sixtel, and even then, only one, per location.

And also, they have a bazillion locations now, so it's spread even more thin. Oh, and even better, some of these locations are "franchises," which means they don't get BRC, for whatever cockamamie justification they made up. Those locations only get the plain beer that only true local bar patrons care about.

I mean franchises, really? Are they trying to be the McDonald's of beer? That's the true icing on the cake.

I didnt even read this past the first semtence. I'm not interesting in taking the bait arguing over their quality. Lots of voodoo sucks and some doesn't and is downright awesome. Why you spend so much energy trying to diss the brewery is beyond me.

I think you're within an hour of me. I'll gladly blind share some voodoo BRC with you and put it against whatever non pastry BA stouts you want. Only thing I ask is that unbiased parties also partake as you already have one.

Definitely wrong about The Veil here, they do not do this. However they have started to serve vintage bottles at their Funkhaust location in Richmond but nothing is being sold at secondary prices. The few they have done so far have been pretty in line with initial cost at release. and nothing has been over $25 for a 500ml bottle.

That's mature and I respect that. But I needed to vent. I like nothing about anything they do. The way they do things in particular really grates on me. It's made it worse that I have tried a few times to give them second chances. And all that's before learning some new things I wasn't aware of in this thread.

I’d like to believe you’re smart enough to realize much that has been said as fact is really just speculation and guessing going on here.

I mean, the picture of the cellar list, not just with ridiculous prices, but only 2 year old and older bottles, is what ultimately set me off. But only because I've had an axe to grind over a number of other issues for a while.

Aslin has marked up on-site bottles for consumption. Iirc bottles were anywhere between 1.5x and 4x the retail price ($45 to maybe $120). No surprise here but inside the beltway bubble, they sell.

Problem is, it's not a real free market; alcohol is a regulated. If you could have any brewery delivered to your house, they wouldn't be able to charge these prices because you would have access to other quality beers and likely at a better price. I'm ok with a mark up on a vintage limited release, I've done it at Hill Farmstead, but the Westbrook's, j wakefield's and voodoos of the beer world can go pleasure themselves with their $20-$40++ per oz bottles.

For the love of god stop posting these trades. The way people are trading these things they have less value than BCBS.

I recently closed white wax BM for Fou Foune 1:1. Also received some Hill Farmstead and Suarez for other voodoo bottles. Definitely more value than BCBS
